Have you ever had one of those days when you wake up and everything just does not feel right? In the last week, I have been feeling out of place. It seems that there are just so much to do and I am just try to find the balance for everything. I feel tiredness and at the same time, questioning my abilities. How I hate the feeling of self-doubt. What do you do when this happens?

Mister and I had a much more grandeur idea for this week’s Meatless Monday dish but all fell apart when both of us had a little too much fun on Friday night and paid for it on Saturday. There was no luxury of a sleep in as we headed off early Saturday morning to catch up with @cloudcontrol for grocery shopping at St. Kilda’s farmers market.

Saturday was a total write-off. Napping or rather sleeping in the afternoon and then followed by @eatnik’s birthday party. And it was also a night of disappointment when Argentina was defeated by German, 4 goals to nil. It was the one team that I had so much hope to win this worldcup. Dreams and hopes were shattered that night.

I may be a food blogger but certainly not very fussy with foods. If we had the time, we will cook more extravagant meals but having to work long hours, simple foods like this is just as comforting.

The weather has definitely turned. I needed to put on my winter coat this morning when I headed to the gym. The other tell tale sign is that I am hungry almost every single hour and all I like to do is to hide under the doona and watch Lifestyle food channel all day.

Many Thai soups and curries are perfect for the cold weather. It warms our tummy and the I love the warming aroma of the herbs that fills the kitchen and the house. I turned to a old Thai cookbook - Thai Cooking by Judy Bastyra & Becky Johnson. I can't remember where I picked this up but it must have been on sale! I was a little suspicious if the recipe was going to work. It says curry but it seems more like a spicy soup to me. Anyway, I adapted the recipe and added my own take on it.

Autumn is upon us and it is time where thick soups, stews, roasts, pies and loads of yummy rich desserts (especially chocolate) to tie us through the grey and cold weather. This week will be the first of the thick soups to make its appearance.

I am not Italian and I am sure many Italians will have their own secret recipe for Ribollita. It is a Tuscan dish that means 'reboiled'. There are so many versions of this but it seems that the most Italian recipe involves the use of stale bread in the soup. I had it at the side and hence is it called 'Almost Ribollita'. The vegetable and bean soup was definitely kept overnight and then reheated the next day, a good drizzle of good olive oil and served with a side of toasted sourdough bread.

The 2010 March Daring Cooks challenge was hosted by Eleanor of MelbournefoodGeek and Jess of Jessthebaker. They chose to challenge Daring Cooks to make risotto. The various components of their challenge recipe are based on input from the Australian Masterchef cookbook and the cookbook Moorish by Greg Malouf.

I wished I had a little more time for this challenge as risotto is one of my favourite comfort food in winter. It has been such a jam packed period and with parents-in-law coming over for a visit, this is what I can offer and I hope it is not too shabby!

I am always on the lookout for simple and yummy meatless recipe every week. This week's meatless day dish is inspired by Christine's Stewed Beancurd Puffs with Daikon & Carrot. It fits the bill and it has been awhile since we have cooked with daikon or also known as white radish. Daikon has a nice subtle sweet but clean taste and it takes on flavour really well. I love it chunky in soups or julienne raw and served in salads.

After a trip to Footscray market, I decided to ditch the tofu puffs and got Enoki mushroom, baby corns and fresh shitake mushrooms. This dish is a collaboration of myself and Mister. I prepped the ingredients, he cooked and I took the photos. And I have to say it turned out pretty good.

So over the weekend, I roasted a big batch of vegetables that I had with either fish or lamb during the week. It was just with oven roasted sea salt, black pepper and a good dose of olive oil.

And look what I found? Yellow Zucchinis! Don't they look super bright and cheery?

Chinese New Year is celebrated for 15 days. There is almost a different event for each day of celebration. Vegetarian meals are eaten on some days and certain Gods need to be prayed to on others. The seventh day is the birthday of all human beings. In the past, farmers in the villages will gather and make a almost vegetarian dish that consists of a green soup and seven different types of vegetables to celebrate the occasion. So I thought for this week's challenge, it will be a good idea to introduce to this really amazing peasant dish that was prepared and cooked by a friend's mum.

These days many Chinese dialect groups will celebrate by having yeesheng. But the Hakka still have the tradition of having luicha for this occasion instead. The soup is made up of mainly basil, coriander, mint, peanuts, sesame seeds, dried anchovies (ikan bilis) and tea leaves. They are cooked, blended together and then placed in the middle of the table.

After so much eating and drinking over the weekend, I was feeling a little drain. So going meatless was welcomed with open arms. The original idea was to make a green risotto as inspired by Citron & Vanille but with the mad rush on the weekend, I forgot to get any spinach. I shall have to leave this to another day.

This is a basic risotto. I always have frozen peas in my freezer. It is like my back-up greens. Sad to say but I will feel quite lost without my bags of peas in my freezer. And I must have my frozen pesto cubes. I usually make big batches of pesto mid autumn and use it through winter and spring till the next batch of basil is in the garden.

We prefer to have home cooked meals for dinner during the weekdays. It can be really expensive eating out and too tiring to cook every day after work. So our trick (not exactly) is to cook very massive meals on Sunday and keep it for the week. And many times, this includes our lunch boxes.

Mister can cook. Actually he cooks better Chinese dishes than me. He won over and impressed my mum when he met her for the first time by cooking his Cantonese style steamed fish. So most Chinese dishes at home is cooked by him. I am just in charge of chopping vegetables which is what I did for this post. So this Mister's first guest post. He cooks, I took the photos and blog about it. (With his supervision, of course)

It has been a busy and productive week. Beach, wineries, cooking challenges and looking for a new washer/dryer. The other exciting thing is that I start my new job this week. Gone are the days where I can spend a lot of time on blogging. It is time that I do some serious award winning projects. That aside, I will still continue with the challenges. I can find time. Just have to sleep lesser!

It seems that I am 'all curry' this week. Made some chicken curry laksa over the weekend and made extra pasta for dinner earlier in the week. And also I headed over to Old Town Kopitiam for a dosh of roti goodness. And since I had leftover springs of curry leaves, it is great excuse to make another curry.

Just a side distraction, I bought a beautiful but weird looking eggplant from the farmers market over the weekend. It did remind me of pinocchio at certain angle but you may think otherwise. I have to say all ingredients in this photo is organic. Bliss. It makes so much difference to a dish. Tomato actually tastes like a tomato. If you know what I mean.

I've been enoying the trips to farmers market every Saturday lately. It is such a change from Victoria & Footscray market were most stall holders are too busy to have a chat and seems to be in a rush all the time.

St. Kilda farmers market (Peanut Farm Reserve, Chaucer St, St. Kilda) happens every 1st week of the month. As usual, it will be good to early. It has a really strong sense of community vibe. Toddlers running around, parents relaxing on the chairs and tables spread out in the middle of the market and the buzz of excited punters like me.

We did wake up early but Henry had to take a call so did not get there as early as we wanted. I only managed to take one photo as the battery went flat! Was really pissed off with myself. Anyway, it was a lovely morning. And I was not going to allow this setback to dampen my happy mood. Off we went with our empty bags and rumbling tummies.
