Salamanca market, Tricycle cafe & Barilla Bay

We arrived to rainy Hobart, Tasmania very early in the morning. Picked up the car and straight to St. Ives that told us that we were unable to check in till at least 1pm. We headed to Salamanca market which was barely 2 minutes away by car and started exploring in the light rain that failed to dampen our moods. And also despite waking up at 4am to catch the 6am flight, we were in rather high spirits.

A day in Mornington Peninsula

I can’t remember the last time Mister and I did a day trip together. And I did not know where to start. So as usual, I turned to twittverse in the beginning of the week to ask for suggestions of wineries and I had an over-whelming response. So thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Ku De Ta

While we were at Bali, this is where we spent more of our time at. Some of you may find this pretentious or a little snobby. But we had some of the best moments and memories in Ku De Ta. After the first couple of days of deception and fending off beach hawkers, we decided that we will check out Ku De Ta.

Ku De Ta is a lovely beachfront location in Seminyak. The deckchairs faces the beautiful waves, there are waiting staff in abundance as it was the low season when we visited Bali. We did get a lot of attention and great service. We became really chatty with a couple of them. We could leave our belongings on the deck chairs and enjoy the waves together. The sunset was absolutely beautiful and honestly, the martinis they serve here ROCKS! I dare say they beat many of the bars back in Melbourne hands down and the presentations were spot on. It did come with a price tag of 100 000 rupiah ($12) which is pretty high end in Bali but worth it though.

The Dirty Duck Story – Bebek Bengil

The first trip up to Ubud was one of our highlights during our stay in Bali. We had Babi Guling for lunch, did a little shopping and hardcore bargaining at Ubud market, bought 250grams of vanilla beans for less than $2, bought myself a pair of lovely heels and a lovely handmade cotton dress.

After all the shopping (no serious damage), we took a short break at Ibu Rai. I had the best avocado milk drink ever. Pure, thick avocado with thick chocolate sauce. It was a pure indulgence and something that I will make very often back in my own kitchen.

Warung Bale Bali

The most thing that I discovered in Bali and as far as the places that I have tried is that there is no MSG in the food. Why do they need to? The beautiful and aromatic spices gives the dishes here a big lift in flavour. So naturally, I was curious about the Chinese food and if there any MSG is used in its dishes.

As I have mentioned in my previous posts, we have done very little planning for this trip. I was very thankful that there was free Wifi in the room in which I did some research to find the nearest place around to have dinner. This Balinese/Chinese restaurant, Bale Bali, kept coming up in many forums so we decided why not give it a try since it was quite close to our apartment.

Babi Guling from Ibu Oka

Ubud is located in the middle of Bali. There are no beaches or mr macho walking around topless and hands swinging by his hand. Instead this town is surrounded by rain forests, rice padi fields and terraces, little art communities, temples, rivers and villages. The lifestyle here is more boho, lesser noise pollution from honking traffic and fresher air from lack of continous construction. So this is a preferred place to visit in Bali if you like the more cultured lifestyle.

Changing money in Bali

There are many “authorised” money changes in Bali. I had to write about this and hope that all that visits Bali are awary of these so called money changers. They are everywhere and their little stalls are basically like wooden counters and manned by 2 or 3 males. The advertised rates are fantastic and this is the hook to get you in.
