Panini stuffed with a simple tomato salad and Spanish chorizo

by jeroxie December 15, 2011

In my second week in Sydney, I suffered one of the worst hangovers ever. The weather was beach perfect but I had to lay in bed sick from the previous night. Sparkling, beer, cider and shots do not mix well. Anyway, Mister was starving. I thought I felt ok to leave the house. We got to Bruschetteria, I stared at the menu and felt sick. The open face sausage bruschetta that Mister had was so good. I had a small bite but that was all I could eat. Back to the dark room and wasted one gorgeous sunny day in Sydney. And I regret it. After that sunny weekend, we only had rain in Sydney. What happened there Sydney? Where is the beautiful blue sky?

Gingerbread man

by jeroxie December 12, 2011

I made these last year and gave them away as Christmas presents. It was my first attempt at baking these festive cookies. I can’t remember why this was not posted last year. But I do remember the really nice hint of ginger and other spices in this Gingerbread man. The recipe is really simple and [...]

Korean roast pork neck and a Scanpan Giveaway

by jeroxie December 5, 2011

It’s Christmas and the time for giving. The lovely people from Kitchenware Direct asked what will I like to review next. There are so many gadgets that I absolutely love to have. For example, the Bodum Bistro Table Green or the health conscious, Cuisinart 3 tier steamer. As some of you may know, we moved from a larger house to a relatively smaller unit in Sydney. That meant our kitchen has shrunk and the oven is no longer a 5 burner but a 4. Our roasting trays no longer fit and have to be stored away. So I chose the Scanpan classic medium size roaster with lid. This is just one of the reason. Another reason can be found within the blog post.

Lumberjack cake

by jeroxie October 13, 2011

I am a mega fan of the dishwasher. I never used or own a dishwasher until we renovated our place 2 years ago. Can you imagine the amount of hand washing that Mister and I did all these years? We love cooking and entertaining at home. Dish washing back then was super hard work but on occasions, I have to admit that it can be rather therapeutic.

Blood orange chocolate ganache tart

by jeroxie October 6, 2011

I was running out of recipes to post and had to dig deep into my drafts. I made these tarts last September. Yeap, you heard me right. More than a year ago and it is still sitting in draft. That is how out of control my drafts are. You will probably seem more of these old draft posts in the next few weeks or months until Mister and I are finally settled in Sydney and the kitchen is open for business again.

International Incident Cobbler Party – Veal osso buco cobbler

by jeroxie September 28, 2011

Anyway, I always have good intentions when thinking about what to cook for #iip and I usually end up not exactly cooking the dish I had in my mind. My hangover wasn’t too bad but it was enough not to wake up too early and making my way down to the farmers market. Too lazy and really can’t be bothered to track all the way to Slow Food. I ended up getting veal osso busco instead.

Chipotle roasted chicken wings

by jeroxie September 19, 2011

What a lovely weekend and I wish I was in a better state to enjoy it. I felt really lethargic and totally unmotivated. I wanted to cook something really fuss free but tasty. My initial plan leading to the weekend was to slow roast a hogget and make a pie or something. Alas those ambitious ideas were thrown out of the window and replaced by this humble and simple oven roasted chicken wings.

Pulled chicken burger

by jeroxie September 11, 2011

What do you mean pulled chicken? What is pulled meat? Basically pulled meat means slow cooking protein that can shredded by hand after. Well, that is what I think anyway. Do you agree? What do you think pulled chicken or meat is?

Eggless maple and candied walnut ice cream

by jeroxie September 4, 2011

Hello Spring! Or is it? In some parts of the world, seasons start on the first day of the month. Australia is one of them but if we stay true to the dates and follow dates that Earth passes four special points in its orbit about the Sun, the Spring starts on the 23rd of September. Technically, we are still in the winter season! Sad news to many but good news to many hayfever sufferers like myself. But actually it doesn’t really matter, my hayfever season has started for me…. Let’s hope this season ain’t as bad last year.

International Incident Mexican Breakfast Party – Mexican eggs with smoked eel

by jeroxie August 28, 2011

I love breakfasts. Breakfasts means weekend.  Please do not judge but I hardly have breakfasts during work days. It is usually a large latte and on occasion, a bowl of boring cereal. So breakfasts on weekends are so important to me. It has to be good. Actually, it has to be awesome to make up [...]

Chewy salted triple chocolate cookie

by jeroxie August 23, 2011

I found this recipe while browsing through the super awesome online food magazine, Honest Cooking. From the success of the Chai spiced carrot cupcakes that were made a couple of weeks ago, I was quite confident that this triple chocolate cookie will be pretty much spot on.

Chai spiced carrot cupcake

by jeroxie August 9, 2011

I have little to write. Is this what you call, writer’s block? I am just stuck for words. Maybe I am too tired tonight or it may be my premature hayfever. I had a misty cloud hanging over my head and I find it hard to concentrate on anything for long periods of time.

Pressure cooker goat ragu with pappardelle

by jeroxie August 3, 2011

I was never a fan of the pressure cooker until I watched the contestants use it and how quickly a piece of tough meat turns into melting morsel of delight. I have heard good and bad things about the pressure cooker. And I was still not convinced about the final flavour of the dish.

Basic pasta recipe

by jeroxie August 2, 2011

100g strong flour to 1 egg.

It is that easy. And do you know why some pasta are so super yellow? Some people like me will add an additional egg yolk to 200g of flour or use only egg yolks. I have used 200g of flour to 4 egg yolks and it works perfectly. You will also need loads of additional flour to dust the dough.
