I love snuggling under the donna with the heater on. I feel very fortunate. These are simple pleasures in life but not everyone in Melbourne is as fortunate. To have a proper donna and heater is luxury to many of the homeless people. Have you wondered where do they sleep on cold winter nights that we are currently experiencing? They are all a little more pricey, catered for the tourists and food is usually underwhelming. That is my personal opinion of course. But since Mister wanted to try the yumcha at Bokchoy Tang, I did not resist. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and we deserve to relax and have lunch in a nice place. ]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[I made a really silly mistake on the way to dinner on Friday. And it costed us a 12hr slow roast lamb. Mister and I both arrived on time for dinner. The place looked particular empty for a Friday night and especially if there was a Family Roast Dinner promotion for the month. We ordered our drinks and looked around the room. No one was having roast? The waitress was also dumbfounded that we mentioned that we pre-ordered our lamb roast. There was no promotion and nor roast! ]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[Most of this batch of quince jam will be travelling back to Singapore to my mum via Celeste (@petitevalse). This will be the first time that Mum and Dad will have quinces. They are still buying store bought jam from the supermarket. Old habits are hard to kick and I am to blame for not teaching mum how easy it is to make homemade jam. Having said that, I did grow up with supermarket jam, thinking that it is the best in the world. I was awarded with peanut butter and jam sandwiches when I am good. Now, I make my own jam and can't remember the last time I bought any jams from anyone. Jamming is such an easy and satisfying process.]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[It has been claimed that Footscray is fortunate to have Station Hotel as a local. We have been there on several occassions and it is a nice casual pub that serves good food, beers and even has a decent wine list. The pub is spilt into 3 areas. The front area where it houses the pool table and some high and low tables. The  proper dining room area is at the back where usually customers with booking are served. And there is a lovely small courtyard area for those that choose to sit outdoors.]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[We missed out on Gaswork this Saturday and so headed to Melbourne Showground farmers' market on Sunday. It isn't my first choice for farmers market. The selection and variety is quite poor and I really hope that with the pick up in crowd, there will be some improvement soon. Maybe I am just spoilt from the offerings of St. Kilda, Gaswork, Collingwood and Slow food. Variety and quality is definitely welcomed. Having said that, I did manage to pick up some free range beef and organic vegetables. So a simple meal from simple ingredients. ]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[I overheard on twitter that this little Italian restaurant, Sosta Cucina, serves up some awesome food. It was also featured in an article called “Australian chef’s favourite Italian dishes” in Gourmet Traveller. I am a big fan of the Italian cuisine. In many ways, I feel that it has some similar philosophy as the Chinese cooking and culture. I feel a nice connection. What do you think? I mean, we both love our noodles or pasta as the Italians call it. 

Anyway, Mister and I have not been on a date for awhile so we I decided that we should go on one. This means that I get to dress up a little and took this opportunity to wear my deep red boots for the very first time. Don't get the wrong idea! It is a tall boots with furry lining. So comfortable. Just perfect for cold winter nights and with a little heel, it does make me feel quite special. ]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[I walk past Panette many times during South Melbourne market weekdays. It always seem packed with breakfast and lunch crowd. So I took the opportunity to visit this place when Mr. S said to catch up for lunch.

I ordered the meatball linguine. It was a mixture of slow cooked veal and pork meatballs with linguine in tomato sugo and topped with thin slices of Parmesan cheese. The meatballs were very juicy and flavourful. It was a very decent plate of pasta. I will give it a benefit of a doubt that the pasta is freshly made or else it means that it is very over cooked!By the way, I like how the sugo coats the pasta. Great consistency. ]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[The thing that I miss about working in Melbourne CBD is the variety and quality of good lunch food. Now that I am in South Melbourne, I hardly venture around the area. It is like what @jettingjoyce said, a black hole of good food and I totally agree. Don't get me wrong. There are nice places for food in South Melbourne but few are affordable to lunch everyday.

After the trip from Hobart and not much food in the refrigerator, it was an excuse to travel to the CBD for some good and affordable lunch. First stop was N Lee Bakery. This is one of the only places in the city that serves Banh Mi or Vietnamese roll. It is definitely a meal in a bun. Carbohydrates, protein and fresh salad! Banh Mi starts with a short Vietnamese style baguette or roll. It has a thin layer of butter and pate. And then followed by the cold meats. You can choose to have cold cuts pork (original) or chicken breasts slices. It is then topped with shredded carrots, thinly sliced onions, fresh coriander, freshly sliced red chillies (optional) and then drizzled lightly with light soy sauce. $5 for a roll in the city is very affordable. But you will be able to get it at $3.80 in the suburbs. ]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[Menya was our first stop. It is a very small ramen shop located on the busy footpath corridor area of Melbourne Central. As the place was really tiny, the group was spilt into 2 tables. I didn't mind too much with the ramen here. @cloudcontrol was not impressed and I believed he gave this place a low score. I had the Menya ramen. I gave it top marks for toppings. I thought it was good value for money at $10.90 and we were given a prawn, a scallop, crab sticks, cuttlefish, an egg and a couple of pieces of chasu.]]></description>

I love the bread. And the olive oil from Chapman Hill was perfect. Slightly fruity, quite delicate and complimented the bread flavour. Actually, I could have the bread, olive oil and sprinkling of salt the whole night. I remember one of us mentioned that it tasted quite 'meaty'. In a good way of course. ]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[The Oyster Bar that my friends and I used to head to when we crave for oysters (they are half price before 6.30pm) have been taken over by Mezzo Bar &#038; Grill. The duo, Luke Stringer and Joseph Vargetto have transformed the place into a much more casual Southern Italian fare.

A few food bloggers that I know have sung high praises about Mezzo but it has received mixed reviews from the food critics. It is on my list of places to go top this year and so when there was an invite to Mezzo for their Pasta al Giro night, I jumped at it.

We were introduced to both Joseph and Mauro (the head chef) before the dinner started. It is always fun chatting with chefs and I am always so star struck with them. Here are a few questions that I had for the boys and so everyone can get to know them a little better]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[One of Mister's close friend was in town just this Easter passing. He has been away for a year travelling around the world and currently settled in London and working. It has been tough for him and I can imagine the change in lifestyle has also changed him. I was always this weird anticipation before catching up with friends that I have not met for awhile. Will we still be able to just pick up from where we left off? Do you ever have this feeling?

Anyway, the day we caught up was the day that Mister and I spent the day with #ramenhunters. After a day of eating, it was unthinkable that we could consume anymore food. We settled for Korean BBQ. I could at least choose to nibble on pieces of meat and not feel self conscious. ]]></description>
