International Tacos Incident Party – Fish ceviche tacos

I did a short stint in the kitchen at a Mexican restaurant back in Singapore when I was 16. I remembered a lot of chopping of cabbage and tomatoes. And I remember the countless times that I burnt myself deep frying those tacos shell! And of course, I remembered the sneaky sips of margaritas after work. That is as much as I know of Mexican food.

I had all these lovely ideas in my head but this time, it didn’t work out the way I visualised it. I am a little disappointed with the outcome. But I am sure that the rest of the party people will be producing fantastic taco dishes.

Cookbook Challenge W20 (Tangy) – Monk fish and lemon

I missed out on last week challenge that I hope to make up for soon. I was pretty determine to cook up something for this week’s challenge. But after a night and early morning of eating, drinking and laughing with the girls, I almost changed my mind. The bed and not the kitchen was my best friend. I did eventually drag my sorry self into the kitchen.

The Silver Spoon cookbook was opened in front of me but nothing much was being absorbed. This simple recipe has only 4 fresh ingredients. Even that proved to be too difficult for me at that point of time. There is a lot of adaptation in this recipe. I just chopped and changed it as I went a long. It was also a timely challenge as I present to you the first lemon from the garden!

Cookbook Challenge W17 (Vietnamese) Caramelised fish with pineapple

Many of twitter friends has heard me moan and whinge about the Metro last week. The trains are late almost everyday for the last 3 weeks. It is such a failure and it’s frustrating during peak hours to travel in jam packed trains. The current transportation system is just not ’smart’ and ‘fit’ enough to handle the increased population. It gets worse when it gets hit with extreme weather conditions.

Some of you may not be aware of our recent flood and hail that happened in Melbourne. We were fortunate to be home. The hail stones were as big as golf balls! And have a look at one of the many videos that can be found on YouTube.

My version of fish otak

Alright back to my dish. Did a little research and came up with my own version as usual. Fish Otak is very popular in Singapore & Malaysia. I remember growing up buying & eating spicy grilled fish otak from the roadside Malay mamak and just eating it there and then.Reminancing it, I can almost feel and taste the char flavoured from the makeshift charcoal grill and the spicy fish mixture generously wrapped in the banana leaf and held by toothpicks at each end. There are a couple of options – mild or very hot. Guess which I choose all the time
