Meatless Day Challenge #8 – Summer vegetables

It has been really hectic with Chinese New Year just round the corner. This whole weekend was dedicated to CNY cookies and tarts. So there is no recipe this week. What I have is a tribute to the beautiful fresh vegetables that I bought from Veg out at St. Kilda farmers market. Some may say I am silly but I do get excited when I see a nice piece of meat. And I do get excited when I see lovely vegetables. Especially summer vegetables. They are so bright, colourful and cheery.

Summer lamb stew with potatoes and carrots

After a heatwave, I was actually glad that the weather turned and it dropped to 20C on Sunday. I do love summer but the heat was getting a little unbearable and rain is definitely most welcomed. With the cool change, it was time for stew. Stew is such a comfort food for me. I can have it almost everyday in winter. It warms the belly and fills the house with lovely aromas.

Goat gerlami risotto with wild mushrooms & nettles

It is always exciting to get home from the market armed with new ingredients and recipe ideas! Never had nettles nor goat gerlami ( the name of the stall holder is Gerry and it is a salami so he named it Gerlami) before. We love chorizo risotto so I figured I could use the goat gerlami. And since wild mushroom has a really deep earthy taste, it should be able to compliment the dish.

St. Kilda Farmers market

I’ve been enoying the trips to farmers market every Saturday lately. It is such a change from Victoria & Footscray market were most stall holders are too busy to have a chat and seems to be in a rush all the time.

St. Kilda farmers market (Peanut Farm Reserve, Chaucer St, St. Kilda) happens every 1st week of the month. As usual, it will be good to early. It has a really strong sense of community vibe. Toddlers running around, parents relaxing on the chairs and tables spread out in the middle of the market and the buzz of excited punters like me.
