Meatless Mondays – Double broccoli with Israeli couscous

by jeroxie February 21, 2011

When I first saw this broccoli recipe on 101 Cookbooks, I knew that I have to make this. Simple and clever dishes like this makes me smile. I took the idea and changed some of the ingredients. I used what I got in the pantry and refrigerator. It is so easy to get out there and buy ingredients that we only ever use once or twice and then forgotten until an invasion by ants or get thrown out during the once a year pantry clearing day. I am ashame and disgusted with myself. This bad habit will have to go.

LuxBite, South Yarra

by jeroxie February 9, 2011

What is it about macarons that send so many of us crazy? I have to admit that I am not super macaron crazy. I like this stuff but unless it is macarons from Zumbo or Duncan’s, it is hard to send me goo goo gaa gaa. I have no obsession with macarons and I am not one to hunt them down. So it took me awhile to get to LuxBite. And one of the reasons that made me get off my ass and trek across the river is its infamous kaya flavoured macaron!

Royal Mail Hotel – Best meal in 2010

by jeroxie February 7, 2011

Finally, I sat down and finish this post. It did take me a couple of months as I left it aside but as I looked at the photos, bits of memories came flooding back. I wanted to run back to Royal Mail Hotel and be courted again.

Roast salmon with salsa verde

by jeroxie January 11, 2011

I watch a lot of food TV channels on Foxtel. And I do adore Rick Stein. I love his simple and no fuss cooking. He was the first few TV chefs that I still love so much. I think I have watched his many food series at least twice over or maybe three times. I have a couple of his cookbooks which I don’t cook much from. Not sure why but I prefer watching him on TV than reading his cookbooks. To be honest, his cookbooks are so boring in comparison to his TV shows. It seems to be lacking in personality.

D.O.C. Pizza and Mozzarella Bar, Carlton

by jeroxie December 27, 2010

I must be last the food blogger to visit D.O.C. It has been on my list for the longest time ever but then I am not a big pizza fan so this place has been on the back burner for the longest time ever. D.O.C is a pizza and mozzarella joint in Carlton. It is almost always busy and most people are happy to queue. I am not a big fan but since it is my mum wanted to have some Italian, I thought why not take the opportunity to check out this place. Finally.

Pope Joan, East Brunswick

by jeroxie October 11, 2010

My poor form in keeping up with my posts is terrifying. I have such a back log of stuff that needs posting. The day job that supports my food and blogging addiction has gone into overdrive. My social calender is hitting the roof. There is so much to do and I just can’t find enough time to do it all. There are so many friends that I want to catch up with. Little food gems that I want to visit and try. New people that I want to meet. And also spend more time at home with Mister and Tekkie. And also travel! I want to travel and get excited by new things. Maybe one day when I wake up, I will have a solution. Or maybe I will dream of one!

Milk Bar Compost Cookies

by jeroxie August 19, 2010

Ever since I tried the compost cookie that @annatreasure made at one of Anna’s infamous dinner parties, I have been meaning to make some. So after months of reading about compost cookies on other delicious blogs and also missing out on the real deal, I made some. Imagine a cookie where you can chuck in chocolate, leftover M&Ms, crisp and even coffee grounds. I did follow the recipe that I grabbed from Amateur Gourmet quite religiously. I took out the corn syrup and added honey instead. And of course, used my own choice of naughty snacks!

Meatless Mondays #33 – Poached pear & chocolate pizza

by jeroxie August 10, 2010

Super sweet tooth this weekend. Maybe it was the macarons that Mister brought back for me from Sydney. Can I just say that Adriano Zumbo is a genius with flavour, balance and texture. Everyone that has a piece of the precious commodity always end up saying ‘OMG! It’s so good.’ The macarons are always the first to go at his shop. If you are in Sydney, make sure you head in before the shop opens.

I was digging through the old Sydney photos and found this. This pinenut millefueille is one of the best cake ever! It looks sickening sweet but it so not. I can’t remember how many layers there are but every layer has a different flavour, different texture. Every layer is like a chapter in a book and together, they told a story. So regret not getting more!

White chocolate and dried cranberries granola

by jeroxie July 25, 2010

I wanted pistachios and not flaked almonds or cashew nuts. I said PISTACHIOS. Twice. I guess it was an early Saturday morning and the chick behind the counter was still half asleep. My heart was set on pistachios and it was too late once I got home and realised she has given me salted cashew nuts instead. Bummer! Or is my pronunciation or slang so bad that she could have mistaken pistachios and cashew nuts?

Vitasoy vs St. Ali

by jeroxie July 23, 2010

I could not refuse an invite where food and cocktail will be provided by Der Raum, St. Ali & Philippa Sibley. This event was held in the lane where St. Ali East calls home. Guests weregreeted by fire twirlers outside the warehouse. The walls of the front entrance were made up with Vitasoy boxes and a graffiti artist was intensively focused on getting his art onto the piece of Vitasoy wall.

Assam lemongrass fish stew

by jeroxie June 28, 2010

World cup fever is definitely in the air. This time in 2006, we were in Germany and loved every minute of it. The passion for the sport is so exhilarating. Everyone talked about football (not soccer). It is FOOTBALL. I remembered the joy and OMG feeling when Socceroos thumped Japan in the first round. And we were in the Munich stadium when we lost to Brazil. And also the moments of that we were in a bar in Italy when we watched Socceroos drew with Croatia 2-2 to go into the next round, facing Italy. And how our dream ended the 2006 world cup dream when we lost to Italy. I love the world cup. I love football. It brings all sorts of people together, just like food. I don’t mind the late nights and early mornings. The World Cup only happens once every 4 years. Time to start saving for 2014. We want to be where the action is.

Chocolate cheesepots with black cherries compote

by jeroxie May 28, 2010

I am sure many Australians are aware who Donna Hay is. I have never really been a big fan of Donna Hay but in her recent 50th Anniversary edition, I could not help myself but to bake the chocolate cake that was on the cover. Of course, mine did not look anywhere like hers. So I said yes when Mardi of Eat.Live.Write.Travel asked me to participate in a Hay Hay it’s Donna Day event (HHDD) that was initiated by Chez Us, I had to say yes and hoping to redeem myself.

Cookbook Challenge (Insects) – Moreton Bay Bugs with white bean puree

by jeroxie May 26, 2010

I have been so behind with all the cookbook challenges. When I looked at this week’s theme – Insects, I was completed stumped. Where will I get insects? I don’t really like seeing them, let alone handling them. And how about eating them? I have eaten chocolate covered grasshoppers in Bangkok and deep fried crunchy [...]
