An Oeuf Roe Degustation Dinner at Provenance Food and Wine, Collingwood

by jeroxie March 4, 2011

Provenance on Smith Street has been on my radar for awhile now. I have been reading about its “Seasonal Pleasures” degustation from other food blogs and also its infamous craft beer and cider Sundays. So when an invitation came for me and my plus one to experience “An Oeuf Roe Degustation Dinner”, I said “Hell yeah!”

LuxBite, South Yarra

by jeroxie February 9, 2011

What is it about macarons that send so many of us crazy? I have to admit that I am not super macaron crazy. I like this stuff but unless it is macarons from Zumbo or Duncan’s, it is hard to send me goo goo gaa gaa. I have no obsession with macarons and I am not one to hunt them down. So it took me awhile to get to LuxBite. And one of the reasons that made me get off my ass and trek across the river is its infamous kaya flavoured macaron!

+39 Pizzeria, Melbourne CBD

by jeroxie January 18, 2011

+39 Pizzeria was voted “The Pizzeria of the year 2010″ by The Age (Epicure). After being wowed by D.O.C, this place needs to top it. +39 is located in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. To avoid disappointment of not getting a table or a long wait, I will suggesting booking in advance. The dining area is quite tight and many patrons were elbow to elbow. The tables are so close to one another that I cannot help but to eves drop on conversations. The smell of the pizza coming out of the oven was intoxicating and definitely stirred up the hunger juices!

D.O.C. Pizza and Mozzarella Bar, Carlton

by jeroxie December 27, 2010

I must be last the food blogger to visit D.O.C. It has been on my list for the longest time ever but then I am not a big pizza fan so this place has been on the back burner for the longest time ever. D.O.C is a pizza and mozzarella joint in Carlton. It is almost always busy and most people are happy to queue. I am not a big fan but since it is my mum wanted to have some Italian, I thought why not take the opportunity to check out this place. Finally.

Stove Kitchen, South Melbourne

by jeroxie November 12, 2010

I am very excited that South Melbourne has landed itself a new cafe/restaurant on Clarendon Street. More options to the otherwise mundane lunch selections. Stove Ktichen is brought to my attention by a fellow reader that works in the same area! Hooray! She has actually given me another lead where I will head to in the next couple of weeks.

The Premises, Kensington

by jeroxie November 9, 2010

It seems that Kensington and Flemington is booming with new eateries and the latest addition to the Bellair cafe strip is The Premises. I welcome this cafe with open arms. Ever since Elevenses has moved on from this area due to the hailstorm and reopened in the city, there is not much good coffee places around our area. This cafe is opened by both Alex Anderson and Kate Holloway. They are both veterans in the coffee industry and and the beans used for the coffee are from Seven Seeds.

Salford Lads Club, Port Melbourne

by jeroxie November 3, 2010

Salford Lads Club in Port Melbourne is a little out of the way. You can either bike it or drive it. Or unless you are one of those warehouses or factories near by. There are a handful of small offices around as well. From the cafe, we could see the tall buildings in the CBD. It is just to hard to get to without a form of transportation. Having said that I do love the decor of this place. The owner seems to be a bike craze! He has some hung on the wall and others lining outside the cafe. Don’t quote me but it seems that the ex-barister of Noisette is the part owner of this really cool, funky and bike crazy cafe. Also I love the brightness and spacious interior. And surprising, there was a good lunch crowd. I guess there are very limited number of good eateries around here.

Friends of Mine, Richmond

by jeroxie October 31, 2010

I know I should be cooking more at home. Need to save money for our upcoming holiday in New Zealand. But I succumbed to laziness and also the yearning for good coffee and decent, wholesome breakfast. As I was going through my morning tweets, @FriendsofMine_ kept appearing in my tweet stream.. hmmm.. Richmond….. traffic and difficult parking. Yes or No? It was an early Sunday morning so why not. I did literally drag Mister out from bed early on Sunday morning. All in the name of good food!

Elevenses now reopened, Melbourne CBD

by jeroxie October 22, 2010

I like both Shanny & Tom. I think they are super awesome. Remember this post that I wrote last year? After a big hail and storm that happened earlier this year, their lovely heart and soul cafe was literally, destroyed. They were heart broken and so was I. I missed heading down on a Saturday morning to pick up a coffee before heading to the farmers market. I missed the little short chats with Shanny about beef rendang and kaya toast. But now I am happy again. They have finally reopened a very quaint looking Elevenses in Melbourne CBD. A sigh of relieve and now they can live their dream again

Emerald Hill Café, South Melbourne

by jeroxie September 7, 2010

Another post in my draft which I just was not sure to post or not to post. Winter has passed and maybe I was too harsh in my initial reaction of this place. I have not been back and have no intention to even though colleagues and friends were saying that I should. I guess what I ate left a really bad taste in my mouth.

The photos below were taken on one lovely Friday winter afternoon. Blue skies and rolling fluffy clouds. Sunny winter days are fantastic in Melbourne. It was a great day to walk around the area. I took some happy snaps just as a reminder of how Melbourne looks like on a nice winter afternoon.

Hardware Societe, Melbourne CBD

by jeroxie September 5, 2010

I miss working in the Melbourne CBD! I am missing out on all these lovely food. I know that many bloggers have been and written about it but I had to do it. It is too good not to diary it. Hardware Societe is a little jewel in the CBD that shines brightly in the midst of other gems. I absolutely love the French style decor and taken a few happy snaps of it.

KoKo Black – A Nuffnang Chocolate Meetup

by jeroxie August 24, 2010

I love meetups and meeting new people. So when it came for volunteers to help organise a Nuffnang meetup, I was probably the first to raise my hand. And it was lovely to be able to co-host this chocolate event with lovely, super adorable and talented, Violet of Violet Le Beaux.

Parisian Patisserie Boulangerie, North Essendon

by jeroxie August 17, 2010

Some of you may be aware that I am trying to achieve some decent baking skills before year end and to be able to bake a reasonably batch of macarons. I bought my first proper baking book ever. A very popular recommendation from twittverse. It shall be reviewed in the coming weeks. Please stay with me as I thread onto the world of flour, butter, sugar and eggs.

An invitation to a proper patisserie to taste and ….. this post is not about me but a very talented patissier, Neil Mckenzie (trained in Le Cordon Bleu) and the newly opened shop, Parisan Patisserie that is set up by him and his wife, Majella. This Parisan Patisserie Boulangerie is located in North Essendon and it’s just a 5 mins drive from home! Perfect!

Zappa, South Melbourne

by jeroxie August 8, 2010

Thursday is gnocchi day at Zappa. This little cafe is family owned and have been around for ages. It is a South Melbourne institution. Michael is usually there to greet everyone. “Hi Bella! How are you today?” And I love how this place is decked out. So many memoirs and nic nacs stuck on walls from the past to the present. Photos of family, greeting cards, little notes… all of sentimental value and showcases the history of this little café.

Kappaya, Abbotsford Convent

by jeroxie July 28, 2010

Kappaya is all about simple organic Japanese soul food. It is quietly tucked away in the convent and just next to Lentils as Anything. The menu is small and simple. The shoebox interior is narrow and dimly lighted. It will probably fit 12 people snugly. The outside will be a much nicer place to be in summer.
