I had a short stint at Lau’s kitchen when I just got out of uni and needed extra cash and saving up for a house. II Fornio is just located next to Lau’s but I’ve never had any interest in trying it out. And of course it didn’t help that I worked in the evenings and it’s closed by the time I got in. But even with the lunch shift that I had, it didn’t seem appealing at that time. Or maybe I was just a poor graduate that was trying to save up money for a house so anything that looks fanciful would have been to expensive for me

Move forward to 2010, hangover and dehydrated from a night’s out of fun, Billy, Mister and I made the effort to finally pay this a visit. Our visit was definitely motivated by the fact that this place has been recently acquired by St. Ali and Philippa Sibley is rocking their ovens.

Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day and definitely something that I look forward every weekend. Having a nice breakfast or brunch is such a luxury these days. Going to work every morning is a rush. There is hardly any proper sit down time and usually breakfast consists of a bowl of cereal or a peanut butter and honey sandwich. I don't mind it but who doesn't love a good sit down breakfast?

I was very excited about this week's challenge and wanted to make something very simple but an uncommon dish for breakfast. It has to be an indulgence. Pure indulgence that screams food orgasm. Most likely not to everyone. But this is about us!

I walk past Panette many times during South Melbourne market weekdays. It always seem packed with breakfast and lunch crowd. So I took the opportunity to visit this place when Mr. S said to catch up for lunch.

I ordered the meatball linguine. It was a mixture of slow cooked veal and pork meatballs with linguine in tomato sugo and topped with thin slices of Parmesan cheese. The meatballs were very juicy and flavourful. It was a very decent plate of pasta. I will give it a benefit of a doubt that the pasta is freshly made or else it means that it is very over cooked!By the way, I like how the sugo coats the pasta. Great consistency.

Renovation is almost done. It is just the bathroom rails and replacing the window in the dining area. We have moved back and is living quite shabbily but at least all 3 of us are home. Nothing beats home! Home Sweet Home.
This little bohemian style cafe is tucked away on Napier Street. They serve organic rainforest alliance coffee and support local produce. This explains why the prices here are a little pricey for the food that they serve. I have to say the coffee here is pretty good. Perfect temperature and a lovely deep aroma and flavour. I will be glad to come back just to have a nice latte, sit in one of the little tables and read the papers. It is such a 'lazy' place to hang out.

The Outpost was one of the extended arms of St. Ali so we expected not good but great coffee. We love the open space, the coffee machine, the kitchen stations and the menu written on big butcher paper and stuck on walls. No partitions or barriers.

Auction rooms has been around since last year but a little embarassed to say that this is our first visit. This place used to be an auction room and hence its name but now it is a cafe and a coffee roastery that is open 7 days a week.

We made an early start and went window shopping for bathroom and kitchen ideas at Ikea first. There was so much to do but we still need to eat a proper big breakfast. We were heading to Victoria market next and I remembered @mutemonkey speaking highly of the coffee at Auction rooms. We made our way to Errol street. This area is lined with cafes and little restaurants. I took note of a Malaysian restaurant called Baba house. It has been added to my list of places to eat before 2010 ;)

Seven Seeds (114 Berkeley St, Carlton) is a new venture that is opened by Mark Dundon. He is known for his passion for coffee. Other outlets that you may be aware of are St. Ali in South Melbourne & Baba Budan on Little Bourke Street. The spacious & high ceiling cafe is set up in a warehouse. On the right when you enter, you are greeted with a wall covered with bicycle racks.

The place was half full when we got there. Plonked ourselves on the table at the end, order 2 lattes and looked at the menu. It had a pretty impressive breakfast menu. There was something catered to almost everyone. From the simple sourdough toast with a choice of Birdman jam to grilled kippers with fried potato & horseradish.

We are spoilt for lunch choices in the city. Fran suggested that we check out this new joint - 1000 £ BEND (361 Little Lonsdale St). This place is massive! It is a huge warehouse like space. There are tables, couches, odd tables. I thought I was walking into a secondhand furniture shop! Really quirky and boho style.
