Salford Lads Club in Port Melbourne is a little out of the way. You can either bike it or drive it. Or unless you are one of those warehouses or factories near by. There are a handful of small offices around as well. From the cafe, we could see the tall buildings in the CBD. It is just to hard to get to without a form of transportation. Having said that I do love the decor of this place. The owner seems to be a bike craze! He has some hung on the wall and others lining outside the cafe. Don’t quote me but it seems that the ex-barister of Noisette is the part owner of this really cool, funky and bike crazy cafe. Also I love the brightness and spacious interior. And surprising, there was a good lunch crowd. I guess there are very limited number of good eateries around here.

Both my lunch buddies decided to go for the roast duck with a orange and star anise sauce with a rice pilaf with mustard seeds. It was a nice looking dish and I got quite envious of their choice. It had a nice orange and star anise sticky sauce. The perfectly crispy duck was a little let down. It was quite chewy and slightly overlooked. Also the cafe did not have proper knives so they ended up with bread knives. We were there on the 1st week of their opening so hopefully, they scored some proper knives now!

To be different, I ordered the pork sausage with pistachio ragu with a tomato based beans and roasted potatoes. I am not a big fan of beans because I tend to bloat if I had too much. But I love pork sausages. These were really good. Fatty and juicy goodness. And loved the obvious chucks of pistachio in it. The roast potatoes were full of butter goodness. The dish looked like a small serve but after the potatoes and the ragu, I was so stuffed. Afternoon nap required!

And we all ordered the orange juice. It was pure orange juice. No crushed ice or added sugar.

The Salford Lads Club serves really good and decent food. I doubt that I will be a regular as it is just too hard for me to get to. But if I do own a push bike, then I shall return. If you are in Port Melbourne, you may like to wander down and check out this place.
