Collingwood must be very pleased to have the inclusion of Proud Mary to the growing list good cafes and restaurants. It seems to be an explosion of new coffee places opening every week. Cafes with roasters, cafes with expensive Synesso coffee machines, once a day cupping sessions and the list goes on. Coffee drinking has always been popular but now it is trendy. But how much do we know about it? Is it a novelty and I guess only the strongest will survive.
I have to admit the first thing that caught my attention when I walked in was the eye-catching wallpaper. I had to walk over and touch it. I must be the only one that was going ‘oohh ahh’ at the wallpaper instead of eyeballing their beautiful and expensive Synesso coffee and rare handbuilt clover machine.
The clovers that we ordered were beautiful. Very fragrant, clean, no hint of bitterness and from really good coffee beans from Brazil and Costa Rica (Mister had the Brazillian and I had Costa Rican). I could definitely taste the sweetness and the tea-like characteristics from mine. But I somehow missed the clover that I had at Market Lane. It is a personal preference and I need to give the rest of the beans a go Another excuse to come back here for the breakfast menu!
I love the wallpaper and I love the crispy potato hash that was served with grilled asparagus, crispy bacon, a poached egg and bagna cauda. The whole thing just worked for me. Gooey egg, homemade potato hash, lightly grilled baby asparagus and beautiful garlicky and rich anchovie sauce. I almost licked my plate to get the last bit of that sauce. Almost. I had company and people were already staring when I made weird noises.
Mistered had the ricotta hotcakes with sticky pears and maple syrup. The hotcakes were a little flat and not fluffy that way we liked it. But I do like the sticky pears. They were very well poached. Not too soft. Just perfect. They way I like it. We had to request for more maple syrup. There was not enough of liquid for the dish.
We had a lovely breakfast/brunch. It was enough to fuel us as we continued with our house painting saga. And it was great to catch up with @@_plasmo_ and friend before we left. We will definitely be back. I like the coffee here but I love the breakfast.
How do you like your pancakes or hotcakes done or topped with?

Those pancakes are good enough to eat anytime of the day. I always love it with berries and whipped cream, or maple syrup with glazed apples.

Was lovely to catch up with you and Mister.
I'm really pleased to have Proud Mary so close to home. The bircher muesli was outstanding, with orange yoghurt, blueberries, strawberries, and finely julienned green apple.

You're such a good breakfaster, I'm always green with envy at your dishes! Love the wallpaper too.
I think I would have requested more syrup too, those hotcakes don't look nearly saturated enough.
