The Pizza Festival first started in Melbourne in 2012 and is founded by Matteo Rubbittino. The event is now located in the 2 cities – Melbourne and Sydney. I was fortunate enough to be invited to pick 3 pizzerias to visit from the events dates July 8th till 28th. The whole idea of Pizza Festival is to get everyone to try more pizzas. Therefore, there are two “Signor Promos” for you to enjoy, uniquely at the events. Pick either $20 for a pizza and a drink or $50 to try 3 different pizzas.
I had the opportunity to have a quick chat with Matteo and to learn about the future of Pizza Festival. Where is he going next? He did mention that other cities may get to enjoy a taste of what Melbourne and Sydney pizza chefs have to offer. To learn more tips on making your own pizza at home. The first on the list is the very delicious and authentic Pizza Mario in Surry Hills. It has been on my Sydney bucket list for a while now and took the opportunity to check it out. Pizza Mario was buzzing with lots of hungry and happy people at the same time. The pizza lovers unite!
Mister and I ordered 2 pizzas. The first was the margherita with proscuitto and rocket. I love the thin and soft and almost spongy base. The topping was generous and I could not help myself and went beyond my usual 2 slices of pizza rule. Many may appreciate the bulging crust but I am never a crust person.
The second is the gorgonzola pizza. It was a party of mozzarella, gorgonzola, mushroom and ham. I love the strong taste of the gorgonzola. And I found out that gorgonzola and chillies are best friends. We added fresh chillies and it worked really well.
Are you the authentic pizza lover? If you are, it is not too late to check out website for the rest of the pizzeria that are participating in this event. I will suggest that you make a booking to avoid disappointment.
My next pizzeria to check out will be Lucio in Darlinghurst…. what should I order then?
