I walk past Panette many times during South Melbourne market weekdays. It always seem packed with breakfast and lunch crowd. So I took the opportunity to visit this place when Mr. S said to catch up for lunch.

I ordered the meatball linguine. It was a mixture of slow cooked veal and pork meatballs with linguine in tomato sugo and topped with thin slices of Parmesan cheese. The meatballs were very juicy and flavourful. It was a very decent plate of pasta. I will give it a benefit of a doubt that the pasta is freshly made or else it means that it is very over cooked!By the way, I like how the sugo coats the pasta. Great consistency.

My friend, Mr. S, ordered fish & chips from the specials board as well. I can’t tell you much as I didn’t taste any of it. According to Mr. S, they were pretty good but dry. And why? Because they do not serve or have any tar tar sauce! And not even tomato sauce? Before we left, Mr. S gave them his feedback on the sauces. Hope that they will take it on board.

One more place in South Melbourne that is worth the effort to come back to for a nice lunch. There is a nice little strip of cafes in this area. Will have to try them all. Maybe there is hope in South Melbourne for good lunch places but it doesn’t come as cheap. A plate of the pasta was $18. At least it was satisfying. :)

I think I prefer to take that fish & chips! Something light! Have a good day, dear!

Best regards, Kristy

No sauce for the fish and chips!? :o I don't think I've ever eaten them without some sort of sauce. I would definitely want to give them feedback about that :)

Wow…that's pretty steep for a plate of pasta! Glad to know it was satisfying.

You have such great restaurants down there! Every time I read about one of your dining out experiences I'm so jealous. Unfortunately the "other Valley" (napa) has better eat out spots than we do. Here in Sonoma it's all about eating in.

That pasta looks like it'd sort you out well into afternoon tea time :)

I like to have a toothpick in my bag for when necessary. I might have to start packing some sauce in there too.
