We arrived back in Melbourne early Sunday morning. We headed home to have a look at the state of our renovations. This was a picture of what it looked like on Sunday. But since then, the walls are up and the fittings will be going in soon. We are really excited about this whole transformation. We have still been living like students ever since we finished school and it is time to move on and be all grown up now.

Mister had roast duck craving while we were in Bali. Since we were bunking in with Ms I in South Yarra while our renovations is still going on, we decided to just walk to Pacific Seafood BBQ House for dinner together. It felt good to be back but I do miss the beach and surfs. Coming back for any holiday had always a bittersweet roller coaster ride for me.

Pacific Seafood BBQ House is one of those Chinese restaurants that we go back from time to time. It is our usual haunt for crispy pork, BBQ pork and roast duck. The other place that does it really well is Linx (South Melbourne market). It has been awhile since we have eaten other dishes here so we decided to dine in.

We were greeted with a bowl of pork bone soup. This is a usual practise in many Cantonese restaurants. Cantonese are big on soups and they like to start or have a meal with soups. My mum is a Cantonese and I will have soup for every single meal everyday.

We ordered a plate of crispy pork and roast duck. Maybe I had so much good Babi Guling in Bali that the taste had slightly paled in comparison. The pork was still fatty, tender with a nice crunchy top. The duck was very moist and had a nice think skin. However, I was missing those Balinese spices. The chilli oil did slightly make up for the heat that I had grown accustomed to while we were in Bali.

We ordered a Stuffed Combo. It was fried beancurd with eggplant and capsicum stuffed with minced prawn paste and served with a bowl of szechuan sauce that we poured over the dish. It was starchy, spicy, sweet and sour.

The three eggs dish consists of normal, salted and century eggs all scrambled and served with a bed of spinach. A very simple and light dish that my mum used to cook for me but she would have replaced the spinach with pork and steamed it instead.

Not having had much fish in Bali, we ordered a steamed barramundi in light soy and seasame sauce. The fish was fresh as it was alive and still swimming in the tank not too long ago. The sauce was good but just a little too salty. But we reckon that we could just have the sauce and rice! YUM! The taste is clean and it was a pleasant change from the spices that we had in Bali.

This is like a proper home cooked meal. The 4 of us sat down, had a nice meal, talked about our experiences and what had happened while we were away. It was good to catch up with familiar faces and friends. It made reality a little more bearable. ;)

Is there a restaurant or cafe that you go back from time to time? Is it the food or the vibe that brings you back?
