I was and still am totally thrilled to be offered the opportunity to test out the new Panasonic Lumix TZ10. The reviews that I have read have been pretty good. I spent the last week taking it everywhere I went. The new Panasonic Lumix TZ10 comes with a 25mm wide-angle, 12x optical zoom, LEICA lens camera. Pretty impressive specs. So what did I think of it?
I was very excited to test out the GPS tagging system on the Panasonic Lumix TZ10. You should see the big stupid grin on my face when it picked up a suburb that I was catching a train from. As many GPS system, it isn’t as accurate as we want it to be and often a delay in picking up a new location. The other to thing to note is that the GPS is still active when the camera is turned off but will turned itself off when the battery is about a third left.
The EXIF data which is the standard location information is picked up by Flickr when I uploaded this photo to test out this functionality. This makes travel photos a breeze to tag and organise! Absolutely love it! No more manual tagging on the map. Save time and pain!
I am a food blogger so obviously, I love close up shots of food. I baked some cookies over the weekend and played around with matcha powder (can you sense a matcha post coming up soon?). Just to note, the skies were pretty dull on the day. I made use of the manual mode for this test shot. It is really easy to adjust the aperture and shutter speed from the buttons at the back. For a seasoned compact and DSLR user, there is little use for the manual provided. It did not take me too long to get use to the camera and the menus and buttons on the camera.
I am pretty rapped about this shot.
What do you think?
And another close up shot of a orange and rhuburb friand that I had at the Slow Food farmers market on the weekend. Snap and away and by the way, it did pick up Abbotsford on the GPS. #scored #win
With a 25mm wide angle lens, I could capture much more into a single photo. It is great for landscape and to fit a big group of friends in.
This next shot was taken while I made a mad dash to The Langham. The Panasonic Lumix TZ10 has introduced the Panasonic Intelligent Auto (iA) mode. It came in really handy. When I pointed at the building, it was intuitive enough to switch to a night scene mode and away I snapped. This photo was taken one-handed and I am pretty impressed that it captured the image without much trouble and with just a small blur. The Panasonic Lumix TZ10 comes with a double hand-shake correction. I guess if I used both hands instead of one on the move, this photo would have been much better and sharper!
One important thing to note, the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 comes with 55 scene modes! And guess what, there is even a food mode! And the self-portrait mode actually tracks where your face is.
Overall, I love the sturdiness of the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 and I believed that they’ve nailed the ergometrics. It just feels right. It is a little bigger than the usual compact but it’s packed functionality certainly make up for it. The other thing that I loved is the big 3inch LCD screen and I had no issues viewing the photos under bright sunlight.
This 12.1 Megapixels compact camera is now retailing at $650. If you need more information on specs, please head over to Panasonic Lumix TZ10 to find out more. Or please feel free to leave a comment with the question and I can try and answer them the best I can. Or even take some test shots and send it across to you
A very SPECIAL GIVEAWAY for all my blog readers, you just need to answer this question and stand a chance to win a Panasonic Lumix TZ10! The competition closing date is Friday, 3 September at 11.59pm (AEST) so make sure you’ve got your entry in by then. (Only open to Australian residents aged 14 years and over)
Where in the World would you take the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 and what photo would you take?

I would take the TZ10 on a morning flight from Melbourne to Perth, so I could take countless shots of the sun rising above the clouds, slowly but surely catching our plane. Sunrise and sunset above the clouds is truly something everyone should see at least once in their lifetime.
I really would bring theTZ10 wherever I go. There shouldn't be a specific place because every where you go, you need a camera, you need a note of that place via picture. That's a piece of memory.
And I would like to take pictures of strangers with real emotions. For example, homeless man biting its burger given by a kind passer by; a young lady crying quietly sitting in the park; old couples holding hands in tram; drunkard stumbling in the city. Stuff like that.
So, it would be great to have TZ10. Simple yet capturing beautiful moments.
Cheers x

Sounds like an interesting competition. When I'm slightly free, I shall participate in it.

Hehe are those ear muffs? How cute!
I'd take the TZ10 to the Arctic Circle with me at the end of this year and take photos of the Northern Lights! I have a feeling this camera could handle both the cold climate and the darkness there!

I would take it everywhere and hope it helps me to be a better food blogger. My problem is that I get caught up in the rush and excitement of the food and eat it before I get a chance to photograph it! I like that you call it a 'travel buddy' – this is exactly what function the camera would fulfill for me: by my side ready to support me in photo moments of genius, failures and everything in between.
It would no doubt encourage me to make the most of the amazing potential around us all the time, everyday, no matter where you are. It would be an inspirational force.

The TZ10 is small, has GPS tracking and is easily concealed, yet delivers the kind of quality you can print from. I would have it with me when ever my big camera is either not appropriate or culturally wrong and 'sneak' shots from the hip with the TZ10. It would be at home as much in the big mosque in Damascus as it would be capturing the night-life of Reykjavik.
Yay for free camera =) my post coming up tonight! Great photos you've captured with the new member of your camera family!

I would love to take it when I travel back to the Philippines to visit my relatives, along with my children for the first time. I would capture their reactions to all their new experiences.

Hmmm let me see, I have always wanted to go to Paris as cliche as it sounds but really, how can an avid baker like me resist the allure of the best pastries in the world? I would probably buy a whole box of macarons from Pierre Herme and take them all the way to the top of the Eiffel tower and take a photo of myself with the box =) Is that good enough? =p

I would take the camera with me on my monthly early sat morning pilgrimage to my local Farmers Market in Bundoora, where I would try and take some beautiful shots of all the luscious and fresh fresh produce on offer. I’ve been trying to convince my family and friends to venture over with me for ages, and I think photographic proof (and photos of the resounding culinary success with said produce!) would be able to convince a few of them.
This isn't an entry but well done on your photos! And what is that thing in the top picture that the camera is resting on?

I would take the TZ10 to my wedding in Melbourne as a back up camera for "behind the scenes" shots that the wedding photographers might miss while doing their rounds!
I would take it to the Florida coast to photograph the incredible flora and fauna!
That is a really nifty little camera. I would definitely take photos of food, but for something more exciting, I would love to take pictures of the markets in Provence!

Is it really good? I recently lost my camera and I am looking for a replacement. I've been a Canon user since I was in college and I would love to try another brand if it would give better results.
Hi Kirstine,
I still own and use a Canon IXUS 980IS. Very similar functionality but of course, older model, no GPS and do not record video in HD. The colour output of this Lumix is definitely more superior, imo. I am certainly impressed with the iA mode when I am feeling lazy. It is pretty intuitive. It is slightly bigger than the usual compact but I have a big bag so no problems.
Check out the other bloggers that have been using these as well – you can find them via the T&C link.
But let me know if you still need more info, I can try and find out more for you.
Cheers

Thanks for taking the time. I really appreciate it.
This Lumix seems really impressive. I think I'm going to see for myself tomorrow. =)
Fantastic! It is good to shop around and ask questions. If there is any other camera question if I could help, let me know. I can try and take a test shot and send it to you
There is no post production done to any of these photos on this post.
I’d take the camera back in time and document my 17th, 18th and 19th century female ancestors at work in their kitchens. How did they budget and feed their large families?
I would take my camera back with me to japan! All of the bars and restaurants over there seem to always be so dim with little light coming in from outside – so the low light features of this camera would be perfect! It would be great not having to carry around my massive SLR to restaurants and have something this small – which gives a great result without a flash.

I would take this supercool and supercute camera on the bay bike trail and capture the life I see along the way…
I'm starting on my longest travelling adventure in less than a month time! I would love to bring it to Singapore to take videos of my nephew having a concert and niece endless fall as she's learning how to walk. Dive with it at Sipadan to capture the colourful underwater world and also shots of sun rise and sun set by the amazing Mauritius and Seychelles seasides.
Best of all, I can capture my Minister chasing the sharks!!!

I would take the fabulous Panasonic Lumix TZ10 down to the Lost Dogs Home in North Melbourne to take photos and HD video recordings of my featured 'Superstar Dog of the Day'. I would then use the photos and video to feature the dogs for adoption on my Facebook page: 'WOOF'. Hopefully providing a HD video of the dogs will help their chances of becoming adopted.

I would like to bring my TZ10 to Singapore, the place I came from. I’d take photos of the places I have wandered since I was little, the stories which would unfold from me going home and lustre from my grandma’s 90th birthday celebration. My chronicles & my TZ10, they go together.
I will take my TZ10 to my family holiday in Europe next year. To capture all the happy moments with our family and friends in Holland, glorious French food in Paris, happy time in the Tuscany and the blue and white houses on the cliff top of Santorini.

wow, that is one cool camera! You've taken some impressive shots with it! I love the amount of features it has. My point and shoot is incredibly old, so I've been relying on my DSLR.
I would take it the grand canyon and take shoots of the beautiful long shadows. Not to mention take photos of anything slightly food related.
P.S. Bring on the matcha!!

Wow, the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 is COOL. Love its GPS and double hand-shake correction. It seems a perfect and handy camera to take with whenever I go traveling and sampling good foods in restaurants. Best of all, the colours of the foods shown in this blog are very natural. Love it!

Where wouldn’t I take it?! That is an easier question.
I would take it to the streets of New York and try to capture just a teensy bit of the vibe of the city. Through food of course. Lots of it. The weird, the wonderful and the sublime. From Momofuku to Mario. Lunch at Per Se or a hot dog to go. Down to Chinatown for dumplings then across to Brooklyn for pizza. A panino at ‘ino. Arroz de pato at Aldea.
I could eat and click forever!
I would take the TZ10 to my grandparents house to take photos and video of my Pa teaching me how to make a kite like the ones he made me as a kid.
I would love to take my TZ10 to Havana in Cuba, and take photos of its romantic architecture issued from rich history of Spanish colonisation
I would take it to Hong Kong and snap all the different food that I ate as well as heaps of photos of my dearest family which I miss like mad.
