Having heard good things from fellow food bloggers, Jess and Cindy, we decided to head down to Min Lokal for lunch. We used to live around the area but it has been awhile since we have moved. But Mister remembered that it used to be something else before Min Lokal took over. It is always nice to find cafes like these in the residential part of the Fitzroy. It is tucked away from the busy streets of Fitzroy and Collingwood and I guess that is what makes it a more relaxing cafe to hang out and feel lazy.

I ordered 2 lattes while I checked out the menu on the blackboard. It did not take me long to decide what I wanted. I ordered the Taleggio baked eggs with cauliflower , potato, roquette, camelised onions, eggs and bacon served with toast. Apart of the slightly overcooked egg yolk that was a little dried out, this egg dish was close to perfection. I love the strong cheesy Taleggio flavour. The mild roquette was very fresh and lightly seasoned. And it was a good surprise to find big pieces of bacon at the bottom of the dish. I just wish there was more toast ;)

Mister order the Lamb cutlets with fennel, walnuts, bitter greens, mint and citrus yoghurt. The lamb was well cooked but it somehow lacked taste. It was, in fact, quite bland. And the salad was not well balanced. A tad too tangy for his tastebuds.

We like this place. It has the typical Brunswick bohemian feel to it. And it seemed that this place is outfitted with mostly 2nd hand furnishings including the coffee machine (please correct me if I am mistaken). The coffee here is not the best. Maybe I should have a juice the next time.

Sunny Saturday Melbourne

Sunny Saturday Melbourne

It was such a lovely sunny day. It is starting to feel like Spring weather. And the days are getting longer. This means summer is round the corner. Beach weekends. Picnics. BBQ! Bring it on!

Watch this space for a piece of chocolate heaven – Monsieur Truffe.

Would you prefer a low key cafe or a posh looking cafe for a lazy Saturday lunch?

That depends on my mood and budget. I’m salivating over the baked eggs. But it’s a sin to overcook eggs. Lamb is always welcome anytime. I always order lamb if they’re available. Well, I don’t get to eat lamb at home. :)

That egg dish looks and sounds so good. Every dish should include surprise bacon. Maybe that's what the lacklustre lamb was missing! :D

I'm glad you had a nice time, even if the food wasn't perfect. :-)

Interesting review, I just went there for the first time today…very nice coffee and an excellent ANZAC, I’ll go back to eat there soon. One thing though – it’s not in Collingwood, as the small panel above says, nor can it have a “typical Brunswick bohemian feel”…it’s firmly located in The People’s Republic of Fitzroy!
