Meatless Day Challenge

Meatless Day Challenge

Tofu Trek is a new tofu/vegetarian stall in Victoria market. Most likely a recent change of hand. There are more varieties of tofu and tempeh than before. What caught my eye was a soy based tofu tempeh and bought 2 tubs. I love tofu and tempeh. It works as a great substitute for meat. Plus, we are taking cue from Mellie of tummyrumbles where she does a Meatless Monday and so we  decided to do a Meatless Day at least once a week. This will be the first week that we are kicking off this challenge.

This is so easy to put together. Not sure if it is even considered a recipe? But with everything else going on, weekday meals have to be kept very simple, quick and easy.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tubs of tofu tempeh
  • Whole meal wraps or normal ones
  • 1 bunch of baby cos
  • 1 red capsicium
  • 1 green chilli de-seeded
  • Flour
  • Sweet chilli sauce

Baby cos

Method:

  1. Slice the tofu tempeh into 8 pieces (for each tub), lightly flour and shallow fry in hot oil till brown. Drain on paper towel
  2. Chop and slice all the vegetable and set aside
  3. Spread the sweet chilli sauce onto each tortilla and start piling the filling in

Yes. I have over stuffed the wrap but who cares. I am home so messiness and greed is not an issue ;)

Happy holiday season everyone. Eat and drink lots but be safe :)

What are your Xmas plans this year?

Though I love both tempeh and tofu, the idea of tempeh-tofu has always weirded me out a bit. However, your wrap looks awesome! Go overstuffing.

Looks great! And of course it should be overstuffed :) Is your kitchen done yet?

So glad to see you've gone meatless for a day :-) Way to go!

I've not tried the tofu tempeh, but I am intrigued! I will have to give your wrap recipe a go, especially when the weather gets warmer.

Our Meat Free Monday has turned into a Meat Free Wednesday this week. I was planning on doing a tempeh curry tonight, but it's too damn hot. I think pan fried haloumi on some salad leaves wins out.

Love tofu and could go without meat for months! I stayed vegetarian for one year and was great. Never tried the tofu-tempeh though, I think I will like the pieces of soy in there! Your wrap looks very inviting!

I should doing this meatless Monday too instead of doing it on random order. :D It's good that you were able to find some tempeh. I'm still looking for this in our area. I'll still eat it even if you overstuffed it. :D

Great idea! I admit whenever I buy tofu steaks (I quite like that brand) all I do is put it in tofu burgers with some satay sauce and salad. This is a nice alternative! :)

I always overstuff, I will never learn. Looks good!

I find that using tofu as a meat replacement adds more importance to the texture. I haven't tried tofu tempeh before but it looks like it'd give a good bite!

I'm with you on meatless at least once a week. We did Eggplant Parmesan this week, made with a marinara loaded with veggies. I posted the recipe if you're interested.

Love tofu, and a tempeh, but I've never tried them together like that before. Love the wrap idea. I usually throw mine into curries and such, and could probably do with something different :)

@lisa – I like it. It just adds a little texture to it.

@Stacy – My kitchen is almost ready. Just bits and pieces to paint.

@Mellie – And I will need to give that tempeh curry a go!

@citronetvanille – It tasted really good. Dishes can taste just as good without meat :)

@Divina – I rather do meatless day once a week instead of a particular as I may not be able to commit. Please join me!

@Lorraine @ Not Quite Nigella – That sounds yummy too! Will have to try that out.

@Conor @ HoldtheBeef – No crime of over stuffing good food.

@Jen (jenius.com.au) – It does and Im sure it is sold in Sydney as well

@Scott K (Fight the Fat Foodie) – Sounds good! I am doing this once a week. Join in the fun!

@Shelly @ Experimental Culinary Pursuits – Wow! That is a long time. Good on you and I totally respect that.

@Kristy – Im sure you can trick them!

@Trix – Thanks babe. Knew you will be supportive

@Kinzie -No problems! We all play a part in trying to make our environment and healthy better :)

@Christine@Christine's Recipes – hmmm…. even organic shop?

@The Little Teochew – Fab! I will promote this slowly and hope you will join me as well :)

@MaryMoh – Just try it with plain tofu but can marinate with soya sauce.

@Ellie – Merry Christmas to you too!

@Y – I am also always open to new ideas

@Vee @ Munching (in) Melbourne – Check out my next post lovely!
