It was still the first week into the new year and many cafes were still closed for holidays. It was the first time that Mister had walked from his office to meet me for lunch. We thought it would be nice to have a pub meal. That was our first impression of Golden Gate but instead they only served Australian tapas styled foods. We weren’t too bothered and got ourselves a table.

Everything on the menu was $5 each. I thought this was a pretty good deal and it would be a rather perfect Friday lunch getaway from work. Mister queued to place the order while I looked around and took some snaps as usual :)

The service here was quite slow and the food took ages to arrive. If they are to cater to lunch crowd then they need to do something about the timing. We waited for almost an hour before our first order arrived. The carrot & daikon salad was topped with fresh coriander and mint with a red wine vinaigrette that I fail to notice. The whole dish was bland. My hope for a nice meal disappeared.

The scotch egg was served with a nice tomato relish. It was a good scotch egg. Had not had these for a very long time and it was a first for Mister. May attempt to make it myself but may have to convince Mister to help me when it comes to the deep frying bit.

It is near impossible to go wrong with potato, sage, gorgonzola and rosemary pizza. This was the best dish of the day.

The last dish was another disappointment. We ordered the pistachio crumbed pork belly with Waldorf salad. I really doubt if there were any pistachio in the breading. The pork belly was 90% fats and 10% meat. It was a failure. And to top it all, our last order was missed and had to wait another 15mins. Mister was late back for work.

Looking around, I noticed that most people here ordered the pizza and not the tapas. I doubt I will return. It is good idea to have a taps style bar in this area but the food just lacked flavour and needs a lot more seasoning. Plus one hour wait is too long and needs to be improved if the business is keen on catering to the lunch crowd.

Why do you think that the wait took so long?
