It was a spur of a moment decision. A little late for breakfast and too early for lunch. So off to Creperie Le Triskel (32 Hardware Lane) little french creperie and cafe on hardware lane in the city. We had a table outside and watched mostly tourists walking by. It was quite pleasant to have some quietness before the lunch crowd buzz!
As the name suggests, the specialty of this place is its freshly made crepes. A nice selection of toppings to choose from – warm melted chocolate, maple syrup, sugar lemon, orange marmalade, nutella, ice cream, strawberries, pear and the list goes on. I ordered a simple banana with maple syrup & almonds with a cup of Le Bol de cafe Au Lait (I think it means flat white in a bowl).
The crepe was really light. Each of the ingredient did not overpower the other. Nice and simple. I wish there was more!
Miss L ordered one of the specials – Le Croque Monsieur (toasted sandwich with bechamel sauce and ham, topped with melted Gruyere cheese, sitting on a green salad). All this for $9! Well worth every bite. What a great idea to use bechamel sauce. You will think that this sandwich will taste heavy but it doesn’t. The salad was fresh and well seasoned. The sandwich was light!
The French waiting staff were lovely. Very patient with indecisiveness in the beginning and always there to answer my questions and requests. Great service and very attentive to our needs. Will definitely be back here to try the savoury galette and maybe the cheese degustation on Friday.

That looks marvellous! I miss a good creperie! We used to have a great one but that's long gone sadly. *sigh* that bowl of coffee and picture of the banana and maple crepe makes me long for it!
it seems there has been a revival of little creperies around melbourne. it may happen in Syd?
I could use one of those crepes right now for breakfast. It looks like a lovely place.
Yes, it is. Right in the heart of the city but in one of the laneways. An old camera shop in the corner and surrounded by other little cafes. Nice & cosy!
