Cookbook Challenge Week 10 - Cool
Caipiroska was born in Brazil. There are a few variations and each has a different name. I do get a little confused at times. Caipiroska is vodka base and Caipirinha is cachaca (local cane) base cocktail. Both of these are originated from Brazil and do not have mint in the concoction. And there is Mojito which is of Cuban descent. It is a rum base cocktail with the inclusion of mint and sparkling water.
(To note: Just like to thanks a few bloggers and flickr friends for picking up on the error that I made on Caipirinha.)
Caipiroska is such an easy drink to make and have with meals. It is refreshing and for me, a perfect summer cocktail that can quench the thirst and heat. And this recipe is taken from Liquid Kitchen by Hayden Wood. It was a book was given to me by ex-colleagues from a previous job and I hardly looked at it. I think it will be a well used book from now on.

Set up
Fresh mint
Ingredients:
- 60ml vodka
- 1 whole lime, halved and quartered
- 3tsp castor sugar
- 20ml sugar syrup (use equal part hot water and sugar to make a sugar syrup)
- a sprig of mint
Muddle
Method:
- Crush or muddle lime pieces, castor sugar and sugar syrup in a glass.
- Add ice to a shaker, pour the mixture in and shake well
- Pour into a glass of ice and mint. Stir and serve cold
Cool and refreshing caipiroska
It was too easy to drink. Super refreshing and tangy. And just a word of caution, it is a strong drink so do drink in moderation

I was an exchange student in Brazil and developed a bit of caipirinha expertise
Over there it’s not rum that’s used but a local cane spirit called cachaca, which I think is quite difficult to obtain here. It’s even more deadly than the rum version, though, so your warnings still apply!

yes, I know of cachaca. Tried it once at a bar and it made my quite tipsy! so sweet and too easy to drink.

Oh now…Mojito is one of our favorite drinks and this one with vodka is interesting indeed. The fresh mint will start coming back in the spring, not much in the garden now, but Mojitos and Mint Juleps are on our must drink list.

I am not a good drinker! haha… Last week, I’ve attended a friend’s birthday night out. They only served beers. I had half a bottle (small one!). Already feeling very sleepy and dizzy! Luckily, still be able to drive home safely!
