A twitter acquaintance, @wiredjazz, from Sydney was in town. We planned a breakfast/brunch Saturday and then a photo walk around Fitzroy and Collingwood area. It was a perfect plan. Wake up early, catch up at Proud Mary at 10am. Have great coffee, nice big breakfast and then take photos and talk crap the whole afternoon. As many plans, it did not go as plan. There were tiny and very acceptable hiccups.

It is weekend after all. What rules? Or perfect timing? We were all late. And Proud Mary was super packed. We ended up waiting for half an hour for a table. We did have a pleasant surprise addition – Mr. Ed Charles :) It was great to catch up. It has been awhile since we last spoke besides hello and goodbye at events or dinners.

Beautiful and deliciously mocha. Ordered by the very multi-talented @wiredjazz

And of course, the latte was impeccable.

I looked through the post that I first wrote about this and can’t believe that I ordered a similar ricotta pancakes! And thinking about it, I prefer this version. The pancakes are still not as fluffy as I like them. But the pistachio ice cream was so creamy and luxurious in flavour. I love the bits of nuttiness through the ice cream.

@busichic had Wild mushrooms with polenta, Parmesan crumbs, bacon and poached egg. It looked really beautiful. It is most likely a very rich dish. Not ideal for breakfast but by the time we sat down, it was nearly lunch. It is quite a sizeable portion but @busichic could not put her spoon down. Too good.

I was quite envious when I saw this awesome looking dish that @wiredjazz ordered. It was potato hash with a beautifully poached egg, bacon and spinach and bagna cauda (sauce)

The only one that has not impressed with his dish was Mister. He order the pork belly sandwich. He said he felt a little sick after. The pork belly was way too fatty and it was rendered properly and so was a little chewy. I can’t remember what hot sauce that was. Might be harissa or just a chillli sauce. Doesn’t matter since Mister did not like it. I guess it will be ok with the fat was rendered a little more and pork belly was more on the crispy side.

Ed left after a coffee and Mister left after lunch. The 3 of us continued our plan to walk around Fitzroy/Collingwood and take photos. It will be interesting to see what everyone came up with. We would have taken similar photos but in our styles and perspective. I did not get to take too many as I had to rush off for my session with osteopath. But here are some of them. The rest can be viewed on my flickr album.
