Meatless Monday #29 – Kimchi gyoza

One could never really tire of kimchi. It is one of those little dishes that the more you eat, you more you want to eat it. Last week, Mister made a lot of kimchi and due to its fiery nature; many friends were reluctant to set their tongues and tummies on fire.

This recipe depends on the extent of your chilli tolerance. Please find the recipe for the gyoza dough here. It is so easy. There is a high tolerance for mistakes. Too wet, add more flour. Too dry, slowly add water into the dough. Please remember to work the the dough before making a decision for adding either more flour or water. Your hands are the best tool. I will advise against using any kitchen gadgets. The dough is ready when it feels soft and it is not sticky.

Meatless Mondays #27 – Miso barley risotto with tempeh and tofu

Why waste time while waiting for public transport to be on time? I spent it on thinking of recipes and dishes that I wanted to cook or test on the weekends. And sometimes, I spend time daydreaming that I am in South of France, visiting the countryside and not a care in the world. This was one of the dishes that I concocted while I was packed into the train as usual, like a sardine.

Japanese veal curry

It is home alone with Tekkie. Mister is still travelling around in Tasmania till the end of the week so I will need to prepare meals for myself only. There was nothing very much in the refrigerator and I wanted to wait for Mister to be back here before going through all the Tasmanian goodies. When I posted the question of what to cook on twitter, there were many suggestions like veal schnitzel, scallopini, Japanese curry and even instant noodles!

I was going to make veal schnitzel but changed my mind once I got home. I need packed lunch and dinner for one other night so decided to make Japanese veal curry instead. There are some missing ingredients like onions and fresh ginger. I missed out the onions and used ginger powder instead. Please use fresh ginger if you can and also add onions for more flavour.

Where is the best ramen in Melbourne CBD

Menya was our first stop. It is a very small ramen shop located on the busy footpath corridor area of Melbourne Central. As the place was really tiny, the group was spilt into 2 tables. I didn’t mind too much with the ramen here. @cloudcontrol was not impressed and I believed he gave this place a low score. I had the Menya ramen. I gave it top marks for toppings. I thought it was good value for money at $10.90 and we were given a prawn, a scallop, crab sticks, cuttlefish, an egg and a couple of pieces of chasu.
