Snapshot of so much eating in Singapore

by jeroxie January 29, 2012

I will be kidding myself if I say that I will report and blog about every single place that I ate in the last trip to Singapore. Too much eating and in that sweltering heat, too much walking. Therefore, no weight was gained but a lot of pleasure was gained. For my benefit and benefit [...]

Maxwell Market, Singapore

by jeroxie November 24, 2011

Maxwell market has been around as long as I can remember. There was one brief moment in my life that I worked in the Tanjong Pagar area and Maxwell market was one of the hawker lunch places that I visited very often. Maxwell market is very popular with the office workers around the area so if you visit during unch hour, be prepared to queue for food. And by the way, queuing at hawker centers is normal and no one complains. Why would you when the food is so tasty and affordable?

Bye Singapore. When will I see you again?

by jeroxie November 5, 2011

First of all, say hello to my new toy and friend – Nikon J1. To be honest, I am a little tire of carrying my DSLR around all the time. This will be my perfect little companion especially to makan adventures. There will be no issues running after celebrity chefs anymore! LOL!

Instagram – Getting fat in Singapore

by jeroxie November 2, 2011

I guess you can understand why I ain’t posting anything much. Pigging out, bombing instagram (the flickr album is probably only 30% of what I have instagram’ed) and pigging out more. One more excuse is that we were just tethering from the tablet as so can’t be bothered with loading photos until today… finally broadband has been installed. Hooray!

I had chwee kueh and kopi for breakfast

by jeroxie October 28, 2011

A quick hello to everyone. I know that I keep saying this but it has been so hectic! Both Mister and I packed till late on Tuesday night as the uplift of our boxes and stuff was 7am in the morning on Wednesday. I had a long day at work on Wednesday trying to fit as much in as possible. At one point, I had to shut down my computer and told myself “It’s OK”. And then headed to The Toffs and caught up with a few friends and colleagues.

Hence this photo heavy post about some of the food that we last ate in Singapore. So let’s get started, shall we?

Old Airport Road Kway Chap, Singapore

by jeroxie July 31, 2011

Singapore is a land of choices and it’s getting more and more cosmopolitan each time I head back for a visit. In many ways, I love the buzz, the excitement, the food, the people and like @fatbooo, I miss the Singlish. It is a language known and used by Singaporeans only. It is a mixture of Malay, Chinese dialect and English. We like to end sentences with “lar” and sometimes with “one”. An example will be “Why are you like that one?!?” And another will be “This is damn shiok lar!”

Ku De Ta

by jeroxie December 19, 2009

While we were at Bali, this is where we spent more of our time at. Some of you may find this pretentious or a little snobby. But we had some of the best moments and memories in Ku De Ta. After the first couple of days of deception and fending off beach hawkers, we decided that we will check out Ku De Ta.

Ku De Ta is a lovely beachfront location in Seminyak. The deckchairs faces the beautiful waves, there are waiting staff in abundance as it was the low season when we visited Bali. We did get a lot of attention and great service. We became really chatty with a couple of them. We could leave our belongings on the deck chairs and enjoy the waves together. The sunset was absolutely beautiful and honestly, the martinis they serve here ROCKS! I dare say they beat many of the bars back in Melbourne hands down and the presentations were spot on. It did come with a price tag of 100 000 rupiah ($12) which is pretty high end in Bali but worth it though.

The Dirty Duck Story – Bebek Bengil

by jeroxie November 29, 2009

The first trip up to Ubud was one of our highlights during our stay in Bali. We had Babi Guling for lunch, did a little shopping and hardcore bargaining at Ubud market, bought 250grams of vanilla beans for less than $2, bought myself a pair of lovely heels and a lovely handmade cotton dress.

After all the shopping (no serious damage), we took a short break at Ibu Rai. I had the best avocado milk drink ever. Pure, thick avocado with thick chocolate sauce. It was a pure indulgence and something that I will make very often back in my own kitchen.

Warung Bale Bali

by jeroxie November 22, 2009

The most thing that I discovered in Bali and as far as the places that I have tried is that there is no MSG in the food. Why do they need to? The beautiful and aromatic spices gives the dishes here a big lift in flavour. So naturally, I was curious about the Chinese food and if there any MSG is used in its dishes.

As I have mentioned in my previous posts, we have done very little planning for this trip. I was very thankful that there was free Wifi in the room in which I did some research to find the nearest place around to have dinner. This Balinese/Chinese restaurant, Bale Bali, kept coming up in many forums so we decided why not give it a try since it was quite close to our apartment.

Babi Guling from Ibu Oka

by jeroxie November 18, 2009

Ubud is located in the middle of Bali. There are no beaches or mr macho walking around topless and hands swinging by his hand. Instead this town is surrounded by rain forests, rice padi fields and terraces, little art communities, temples, rivers and villages. The lifestyle here is more boho, lesser noise pollution from honking traffic and fresher air from lack of continous construction. So this is a preferred place to visit in Bali if you like the more cultured lifestyle.

Changing money in Bali

by jeroxie November 15, 2009

There are many “authorised” money changes in Bali. I had to write about this and hope that all that visits Bali are awary of these so called money changers. They are everywhere and their little stalls are basically like wooden counters and manned by 2 or 3 males. The advertised rates are fantastic and this is the hook to get you in.

Nasi Campur everywhere

by jeroxie November 11, 2009

Our first impression of Bali is chaos. The traffic is terrible. The streets are way too narrow to accommodate all the cars & motorbikes. Constructions are going on almost everywhere and there was little footpath to walk on. But this is expected when coming to a touristy beach holiday. And we are staying at one [...]
