Chickpeas and smoked cod patties

by jeroxie May 3, 2012

I love making fish patties with potatoes. As part of a competition to win a table for four at Marque, I was sent a mystery box and one of the few items were chickpeas and fresh mint. I shall share the rest of the items in another post. I chose to do Middle Eastern inspired dishes and this is my entree entry. My initial plan was to make a fully spiced up and aromatic chickpeas patty but after a trip to the Sydney fish market, I changed my mind. I love working with anything smoked. It gives a dish a rather down to earth type feel.

It’s paella time!

by jeroxie June 21, 2011

A gazillion posts behind. My mind is going a gazillion miles an hour as well. Who says that we need to write a certain post before another and so on and so forth? So I went to the Melbourne Good Food and Wine at the MCEC a couple of weeks ago. I probably should write that post before I write this so that I can link back to that post as there is something I need to mention here that…. I think you can the drift. Anyway, I want to write this first because I am so excited to get back into the cooking. So I don’t care what needs to be written first and why. My blog. My rules.

Meal to Share (Chinese New Year) – Seafood San Choi Bao

by jeroxie January 31, 2011

We are back. Since the ushering of the Year of the Rabbit is just round the corner, three of us thought it will be a great idea to do a Chinese New Year theme. Celebrating Chinese New Year is so different from what I remember. I have not been back to Singapore for CNY for [...]

Roast salmon with salsa verde

by jeroxie January 11, 2011

I watch a lot of food TV channels on Foxtel. And I do adore Rick Stein. I love his simple and no fuss cooking. He was the first few TV chefs that I still love so much. I think I have watched his many food series at least twice over or maybe three times. I have a couple of his cookbooks which I don’t cook much from. Not sure why but I prefer watching him on TV than reading his cookbooks. To be honest, his cookbooks are so boring in comparison to his TV shows. It seems to be lacking in personality.

Assam lemongrass fish stew

by jeroxie June 28, 2010

World cup fever is definitely in the air. This time in 2006, we were in Germany and loved every minute of it. The passion for the sport is so exhilarating. Everyone talked about football (not soccer). It is FOOTBALL. I remembered the joy and OMG feeling when Socceroos thumped Japan in the first round. And we were in the Munich stadium when we lost to Brazil. And also the moments of that we were in a bar in Italy when we watched Socceroos drew with Croatia 2-2 to go into the next round, facing Italy. And how our dream ended the 2006 world cup dream when we lost to Italy. I love the world cup. I love football. It brings all sorts of people together, just like food. I don’t mind the late nights and early mornings. The World Cup only happens once every 4 years. Time to start saving for 2014. We want to be where the action is.

My delicious Chinese New Year 2010

by jeroxie March 4, 2010

I need to take a break from all the feasting after this hectic 2 weeks of eating and drinking. It all started a couple of weeks before Chinese New Year where we spent my weekends making pineapple tarts, cashew nut cookies and kuih bangkit. And I made heart-shaped ones because the first day of Chinese New Year falls on Valentine’s Day as well. So more love around for everyone!
A small group of us decided to celebrate both eve and first day of Chinese New Year together. And our place were opened to them. On the eve, we opted to have steamboat. As usual, I volunteered to shop and make 2 types of broth for the evening. The night before was the 30th birthday of 2 friends. Mister and I were shopping totally hungover. We were not a pretty sight. But the party must go on and so we dragged our sorry self to the markets.

My first guest post – How to prepare proper fishcakes

by jeroxie February 23, 2010

I was over the moon when Divina of Sense & Serendipity asked if I would be a guest blogger for her blog. Actually, I did panic a little as I have little knowledge of healthy foods. So this was a real challenge for me and one that I wanted to do well.

Some of you may find Divina quite familiar. She was my first guest blogger while I was away in Bali and crafted this beautiful post – Pineapple Quinoa with Goji Berries and Arugula. Her blog is full of yummy but nutritional recipes. Her stories are heart warming and she has always been supportive not only to me but many other bloggers.

Salmon and potato cake

by jeroxie January 10, 2010

It was the beginning of a round of heatwave and so something light and refreshing was welcomed. My food supply was running low so I worked with what I had at home. Flour and breadcrumbs were usualy used as coating but with this recipe, I replaced it with polenta and dried coconut flakes.

Spiced steamed fish with simple vegetables and fried rice

by jeroxie December 22, 2009

The rangehood was finally installed and the kitchen ceiling had been painstakingly painted. It was back, arms and neck breaking work. The end does not seem near. The task list seemed to have grown after each tick. I know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I can almost see a passage through the hallway. But there is much to do before Christmas and I am beginning to panic. I think I have given myself a big mountain to climb this year!
