Turkey and shitake mushrooms stew

by jeroxie July 5, 2010

It turned out to be a really interesting market trip. Despite the very cold and wet winter morning, the turn out at the Collingwood farmers market was quite amazing. And I almost always bump into fellow food loving friends. As we walked in, we bumped into lovely @essjayeff with her bags full of fresh local ingredients. She gave me some useful updates about chestnuts and quinces. The two ingredients that were high on my hit list.

Salamanca market, Tricycle cafe & Barilla Bay

by jeroxie May 19, 2010

We arrived to rainy Hobart, Tasmania very early in the morning. Picked up the car and straight to St. Ives that told us that we were unable to check in till at least 1pm. We headed to Salamanca market which was barely 2 minutes away by car and started exploring in the light rain that failed to dampen our moods. And also despite waking up at 4am to catch the 6am flight, we were in rather high spirits.

Meatless Day Challenge #8 – Summer vegetables

by jeroxie February 9, 2010

It has been really hectic with Chinese New Year just round the corner. This whole weekend was dedicated to CNY cookies and tarts. So there is no recipe this week. What I have is a tribute to the beautiful fresh vegetables that I bought from Veg out at St. Kilda farmers market. Some may say I am silly but I do get excited when I see a nice piece of meat. And I do get excited when I see lovely vegetables. Especially summer vegetables. They are so bright, colourful and cheery.

Pasta with pan fried sardines & asparagus

by jeroxie September 23, 2009

Pasta is one of my favourite things to cook. I like to keep it simple but punchy. Many of my friends have heard me spoken of this beautiful bowl of pasta that I had when I was in Florence. I can still taste it in my mouth while I’m writing this post. Most people that we met recommended that we checked out Nerbone in the San Lorenzo Market. This is where I had the best bowl of pasta. It was just olives, tomato, celery & a good dose of olive oil. The pasta was al dente. The taste was clean but packed with flavour. Every bite was a delight. I remembered that I could not stop smiling

St. Kilda Farmers market

by jeroxie July 5, 2009

I’ve been enoying the trips to farmers market every Saturday lately. It is such a change from Victoria & Footscray market were most stall holders are too busy to have a chat and seems to be in a rush all the time.

St. Kilda farmers market (Peanut Farm Reserve, Chaucer St, St. Kilda) happens every 1st week of the month. As usual, it will be good to early. It has a really strong sense of community vibe. Toddlers running around, parents relaxing on the chairs and tables spread out in the middle of the market and the buzz of excited punters like me.

Slowfood farmers market

by jeroxie July 2, 2009

We did wake up early but Henry had to take a call so did not get there as early as we wanted. I only managed to take one photo as the battery went flat! Was really pissed off with myself. Anyway, it was a lovely morning. And I was not going to allow this setback to dampen my happy mood. Off we went with our empty bags and rumbling tummies.

Farmers’ market at Gaswork

by jeroxie June 21, 2009

There was a sense of excitement in the car as we turned round the corner towards Gaswork farmers’ market. Armed with our green bags, we walked through the gates and started our little fun and adventure. I was just like a kid in a candy store.
