Round up #6 – International Scones Incident Party

by jeroxie August 23, 2010

First of all, Happy Birthday Month of my 2 lovely co-host, Anh of A food’s lover journey & Cherrie of Sweet Cherrie Pie. This is the first baking party of #IIP and it has been massive. Every month, I get blown away with all the different interpretations of the dish. The scone is such an old fashion quick bread or biscuit as some has defined it. Will scones ever be the new cupcake? You can either dress it up and down. It can be the humble butter scones with the dollop of cream or the fancy pants savory scones.

International Incident Scones Party – Pumpkin scones with sweet tomato jam

by jeroxie August 22, 2010

I remembered the first time I made scones. That was for a domestic economic class at secondary school back in Singapore. It was terrible. It was so hard so all my classmates laughed at me and called them rocks. No one ate any of it. They all went straight into a bin. I was traumatised by the incident and can remember it vividly. This is a real mental challenge for me. I want to do it well so badly.

International Scones Incident Party

by jeroxie August 1, 2010

Scones reminds me high tea. And it seems best when eaten simply with butter or jam with a cup of tea. It is indeed a very simple pleasure in life that I don’t do quite often enough. With all the new and trending breads, sweets, cakes and desserts, scones seem to have taken a back [...]

Round up #5 – International Tacos Incident Party

by jeroxie July 20, 2010

I think everyone has definitely outdone themselves this month. We have breakfast, Indian, Korean, dessert, chilled tacos and of course, the good old traditional tacos. I am always amaze how diversified we are all. And also very thankful with the amount of effort that everyone took to think about the theme and produce exceptional dishes. [...]

International Tacos Incident Party – Fish ceviche tacos

by jeroxie July 18, 2010

I did a short stint in the kitchen at a Mexican restaurant back in Singapore when I was 16. I remembered a lot of chopping of cabbage and tomatoes. And I remember the countless times that I burnt myself deep frying those tacos shell! And of course, I remembered the sneaky sips of margaritas after work. That is as much as I know of Mexican food.

I had all these lovely ideas in my head but this time, it didn’t work out the way I visualised it. I am a little disappointed with the outcome. But I am sure that the rest of the party people will be producing fantastic taco dishes.

International Tacos Incident Party

by jeroxie July 4, 2010

It’s definitely party time! Tacos is a traditional Mexican dish. It will be such a challenge especially for me. I have little clue about the techniques, history and general knowledge of this cuisine. So I am very happy to be a student and to learn from everyone else.

Round up #4 – International Noodles Incident Party

by jeroxie June 22, 2010

A big thank you to everyone that came to the noodles party. It has indeed been a very interesting theme and also not surprising that most have leaned towards an Asian theme. There were so many great flavours and odd combinations. Some worked and some didn’t but big thumbs up for trying. I mean that is what cooking, creating and sharing of ideas is all about. The courage to give it a go and not afraid of failure. And when it does fail, do it again or adapt. And when it succeeds, give yourself a big pat on your back. I love it all and it is my continuous source of inspiration.

International Noodles Incident Party – Homemade Ban Mian with minced pork and mushrooms

by jeroxie June 20, 2010

The Chinese has been making and eating noodles since 2000BC. Like rice, it is a part of the staple diet. It is always part of many Chinese festivals like Chinese New Year and also a must have dish on birthdays. I remember that my grandma would make us a bowl of mee sua. We aren’t allowed to ‘cut’ the noodles while eating it as it signifies longevity.

We are spoilt in Melbourne with great food and produce. But there are just some dishes that rarely hit the right spot. One of these dishes is Ban Mian. It is a type of egg noodle that is very popular in both Malaysia and Singapore. Some use anchovies as the base soup and some places have different toppings. I find the broth served here either very bland and the noodles not well made. Or maybe I am just not looking the right places.

Round up of International Dumplings Incident Party

by jeroxie May 14, 2010

What makes this party very interesting and exciting is the anticipation of going through what everyone else has created. There is so much room for creativity and intepretation of the theme. The dumplings that will be showcased comes from so many different cultures and countries. Russian, Chinese, Indian, Italians, Austrian, Filipino and English. Having said that, I am very intrigued by the similarities of many of these dumplings even though they originate from different parts of the world. I love this whole blurring of cultures and boundaries.

International Dumplings Incident Party – Tang Yuan

by jeroxie May 12, 2010

Masterchef Australia has began and in its first challenge, the contestants were told to create something from their childhood memories. We were away in Hobart and so I missed out on that series but I heard that almost everyone had tears! I guess that is the part of being on reality TV. They need tears and stories to hit top ratings. I am sure they succeeded. Even though many will think that contestants should not cry on TV but if it is something touching as childhood memories, then I am sure tears will flow irregardless. It is just that TV makes use of the opportunity to capture it as this is what most audience are after. They love the tears and it is something to bitch about.

Upcoming International Dumplings Incident Party

by jeroxie May 2, 2010

We had 2 successful runs of the International Incident Parties – Gnocchi & infamous Pizza Pie. Dumplings is our next party theme. There are so many different ways of intepretating dumplings.

These definitions have been taken from dictionary.com:

1. A rounded mass of steamed and seasoned dough, often served in soup or with stewed meat.
2. A dessert consisting of a wrapping of dough enclosing sliced apples or other fruit, boiled or baked.
3. A short or stout person.

International Pizza Pie Incident Party – Serpent pie with pizza sauce

by jeroxie April 18, 2010

First of all, I will like to reveal our official International Incident Party banner. Many thanks again to Trix and Poppy Trix for creating this lovely logo. And many thanks to Natasha & Joanne for their contribution as well. And so let the party begin!

I had so many ideas but being a poor technician, I could not figure out a way to execute it. Yet. There was beer or stout pies that I wanted to make. I thought of the humble Shepard pie with potato and rosemary pizza topping. Fruit pies with cheese toppings. Upside down pies. Too many to name them all scribbled in my little black moleskin and hopefully be able to make them all one day. Oh yes, there was the bone marrow pie! I must make that soon. Even thinking about it makes me salivated.

Hi everyone!

I am really excited to have the official launch of International Incident Party. The rules are simple. Follow the theme the way you think it is. You can go as far fetch as possible or keep it quite simple. We will post on the same day and almost the same time (there are always exceptions). And most importantly, we all have fun creating those dishes and sharing them with everyone else.

by jeroxie April 17, 2010

There are so many creative bloggers and friends around the world with multiple talents. This party is kicking off to a great start. I threw out a logo design challenge to fellow food bloggers and was amazed with what they came back with.

A very BIG thank you to Natasha (5 Star Foodie), Joanne (Second Helping) & Trix and Poppa Trix (Tasty Trix). I will like to show off their designs and also pick one that will become our logo and badge for the launch of International Incident Party – 18th of April 11am (Melbourne)
