Opening Night – Steer, Chapel Street

by jeroxie October 7, 2010

Once in a blue moon, I will cross over the river for food. And when I do, it has to be pretty special. When an invite to attend the opening night of STEER at the Olsen came my way and I grabbed it by its horns. Brazillian influenenced cuisine? I never had it and had no idea what to expect. But what the heck right?

There was a light drizzle that evening but we were still entertained and greeted by fire throwers outside Steer.
One of the fire throwers was actually more than happy to pose a shot for me. I wish I was more well prepared and this was the best shot I took. I need to practise taking photos of people other than food.

Opening Night at Taste of Melbourne 2010

by jeroxie September 3, 2010

Taste of Melbourne is in its 3rd year running and this is my very first Taste. I was so bummed last year when I missed it because I too ill to attend. Not even food could entice me to move from my doona. However, this year, I had the opportunity to spend my first Taste of Melbourne on Opening night with 7 other bloggers organised by HotHouse Media & Events. I was so excited that I could not sit still and was half functional at work.

I was on time and surprised to see fire trucks outside the Royal Carlton Exhibition Building. It was unclear what had caused the fire so our early start of 5pm was delayed till 5.30pm. We were happy to finally able to get in and get started!

Sugadeaux Cupcake Tasting at The Provenance, Collingwood

by jeroxie August 27, 2010

I had the sweet priviledge of attending Sugadeaux Cupcake Tasting at Amsterdam Cafe last year. Before I move on to what this year’s tasting had to offer, allow me to tease you with what I tried last year and some of the flavours that I believe is still in stock and why you should eat them! My favourite was and is the toffee apple and it’s still available!

Jeremy Shipley – Bacardi Sensology ‘Art of Cocktail Making’ at Taste of Melbourne 2010

by jeroxie August 5, 2010

Cocktails. I love cocktails. There is a cocktail for every occasion and mood. I love a nice dirty and smokey martini in winter and a cool cucumber and mint mojito in summer. Simple and delicious cocktails can be made at home and they are usually great crowd pleasers.

I was pretty excited when I found out Bacardi’s Sensology ‘Art of cocktail making” is making a debut at Taste of Melbourne this year and jumped onto the chance to have a one on one interview with Jeremy Shipley. He is originally from New Zealand that has been in Australia’s bartending and cocktail scene for the past 12 years. He was awarded Australia Gourmet Traveller Magazine’s ‘Best of the Best Bars’ in 2006 and co-authored a top-selling cocktail book entitled ‘Shaken’, released internationally by Murdoch Books.

Vitasoy vs St. Ali

by jeroxie July 23, 2010

I could not refuse an invite where food and cocktail will be provided by Der Raum, St. Ali & Philippa Sibley. This event was held in the lane where St. Ali East calls home. Guests weregreeted by fire twirlers outside the warehouse. The walls of the front entrance were made up with Vitasoy boxes and a graffiti artist was intensively focused on getting his art onto the piece of Vitasoy wall.

To all my friends – Thank you for the wonderful time

by jeroxie April 19, 2010

Birthdays have never meant very much to me. It is just another day, another year. And the thing is that I hang out with my close friends all the time. We have fun. We talk. We laugh. So celebration of birthdays is just like a Friday night out. We eat, drink and laugh through the night. But since I have a blog now, I am going to make use of it to thank my friends for being my rock. You know who you are.

International Incident Party

by jeroxie April 18, 2010

Hi everyone!

I am really excited to have the official launch of International Incident Party. The rules are simple. Follow the theme the way you think it is. You can go as far fetch as possible or keep it quite simple. We will post on the same day and almost the same time (there are always exceptions). And most importantly, we all have fun creating those dishes and sharing them with everyone else.

The birth of International Incident Parties

by jeroxie April 2, 2010

Remember the gnocchi party that we had awhile ago? It was a lot of fun and so much creativity from all the dishes. So after many emails correspondences with the initial group of people, we decided as a group to make this a regular thing. Any International Incident is born. This is just a placeholder and the logo will be decided and revealed closer to the date of our next party.

The Salt book and a Giveaway

by jeroxie March 28, 2010

How much do we know and think about salt?

It is one of the most underrated ingredient and then again, it is one of the most common kitchen ingredient that most of us will use in our cooking and baking. Salt was once upon a time used as a currency and was responsible for the creation and downfall of many empires. It is NOT an ingredient or condiment to be belittled.

The Salt book starts off by beautifully illustrating the power of salt to enhance flavours when used with best intentions and properly. Then it introduces us to the different variety of salt and how simple it is to turn the simple salt into something quite remarkable in our home kitchen. It is followed by mouth-watering recipes which I will share with you soon. And it ends with the story and wisdom of salt.
