Twestival – Thank you

by jeroxie March 25, 2011

I can’t say enough of Thank You to everyone that has been part of Twestival and support STREAT. It had been such a roller coaster ride and despite it’s up and downs, it was worth it at the end. It was for a cause that I am very happy to stick my two hands in.

Twestival Melbourne

by jeroxie March 21, 2011

“Twestival was born out of the idea that if cities were able to collaborate on an international scale, but work from a local level, it could have a spectacular impact. Over 200 international cities from Buenos Aires to Bangalore, Seattle to Seoul and Hong Kong to Honolulu have participated in Twestival.
The good news is that this year we will host the Twestival Local! This is a great opportunity to bring the community together. The day is about more than fundraising, but all money raised will go directly to a local charity, that means 100% of the funds will be spent in Melbourne!”

SBS Food Journey 2011

by jeroxie March 9, 2011

SBS Food Journey Festival 2011 is about multi-cultural food journey and is held at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. I was very fortunate to be part of the contingent of food bloggers that were invited to document parts of the event on behalf of SBS. From our knowledge, we had Adrian, Cherrie, Thanh, Shellie and myself on duty that day.

Queensland flood – Please help in any way you can

by jeroxie January 14, 2011

Everywhere we turn, we hear the tragic news of Queensland. It has affected more people in more ways that you can imagine. Many families and friends have been eerily touched by this disaster in some ways. As we care about the people, there are many pets and animals that have been lost.

Please help Bake A Difference this Christmas

by jeroxie November 17, 2010

“CSR Bake a Difference” is a fantastic event that encourages everyone to bake their Christmas presents this year instead of buying them and donate the money they save to Mission Australia through www.csrbakeadifference.com.au. CSR Sugar will match each donation dollar for dollar up to $100,000 so there’s the potential to raise $200,000 that will go directly towards helping disadvantaged Australians. If you’d like to make a donation, all donations need to be made via the CSR Bake a Difference website . I am very honoured to be hosting a special Bake a Difference online blogging event and I urge all my fellow bloggers to join me and help make a difference to someone this festive season.

Behind the Scene – Melbourne Food Bloggers Dinner

by jeroxie November 14, 2010

This is a night that I remember for the rest of my life. It will be one of the proudest moments and also one to cherish for a very long time.

In my previous posts, I had mentioned that it took us about 3 months from planning to execution. The dish that I first made looked and tasted so different from the one on the night. Creating a dish is not an easy task. The braised ox tongue was revamped many times over. Poor Mister had to put up with tongue every weekend. “Hunnie, try this? Nice?” “Errm, hunnie, how about this?” We had tongue salad, tacos, pasta and even with rice. There is only so much tongue that one can consume over a short period of time. Billy and myself even came to a point that we exchanged our dishes. So yes, I will be giving tongue a break.

Melbourne Food Bloggers Dinner – A sneak peak

by jeroxie November 8, 2010

This dinner took about 3 months from the beginning of discussion till today. It was 3 months of back and forth. First, asking the guys from Miss Jackson if they wanted to run this idea with me. And then getting fellow food bloggers on board. We had friends that helped us with the poster design and also a couple of very willing taste testers.

StreetSmart Australia – How are you supporting it?

by jeroxie November 5, 2010

I first heard of StreetSmart, Australia from Ed (Tomatom) last year. StreetSmart was formed in 2003 to support and empower smaller, grassroots community organisations that help the homelessness. It grants support a diverse range of projects including food, shelter, and funding for the ‘hard to reach’ projects that have limited resources to fundraise themselves. It [...]

Melbourne Food Bloggers’ Dinner – Are you coming?

by jeroxie October 18, 2010

Am I crazy? After reading about the food bloggers dinner in Sydney, I wanted to do this as well. Freaking scary? Hell yes but what the hell right? If we dine out and act as if we know about food, then I thought why not try cooking for the public and allow them to tear us to pieces. Taking in good criticism is the best way to learn. It has been a huge learning curve so far. Sometimes fun and sometimes, a little frustrating.

Opening Night – Steer, Chapel Street

by jeroxie October 7, 2010

Once in a blue moon, I will cross over the river for food. And when I do, it has to be pretty special. When an invite to attend the opening night of STEER at the Olsen came my way and I grabbed it by its horns. Brazillian influenenced cuisine? I never had it and had no idea what to expect. But what the heck right?

There was a light drizzle that evening but we were still entertained and greeted by fire throwers outside Steer.
One of the fire throwers was actually more than happy to pose a shot for me. I wish I was more well prepared and this was the best shot I took. I need to practise taking photos of people other than food.
