Gumshara Ramen, Haymarket

Many have come before me and raved about it. It is a very well known fact that ramen in Sydney is definitely far superior than in Melbourne. I have been to Sydney many times and yet never had the chance to hit the infamous Gumshara Ramen. This very popular ramen outlet is located in a food court in Haymarket. This is the first time that Mister and I are taking a lunch break together in Sydney. I am sure the novelty will wear off but for now, I am embracing it. It was about a 5 minutes walk from my office on Kent Street to Haymarket. I was expecting a long queue but was pleasantly surprise that the wait was not too bad.

I had a rather bad weekend for me recently. It was the same weekend when I made chipotle chicken wings to distract myself from feeling pissed off. I had a stupid fight with @mamajeroxie and so instead of having breakfast together, I took my keys and headed out by myself to chill out. My temper has been quite short lately and take too many things too seriously. I was losing my sense of fun lately.

Nabiha Cafe, Moonee Ponds

How well do you know your local and its surrounding cafes or restaurants?

For me, it is a big fat failure. I only learnt about Nabiha Cafe on twitter as I was whinging about the awful coffee that I had at 20 Young Street Cafe. The coffee had a rancid taste and it was burnt! Life is too short for bad coffee. Anyway, @NatStockley mentioned that their coffee is indeed sub standard but serve pretty good sandwiches. I was in no mood for sandwiches after that sip of coffee. But he did offer a tip to check out Nabiha for their coffee.

Rumi, Brunswick East

Mister and I hardly stay apart from each other for long periods of time. He means the world to me and I know that he feels the same about me. It has been hard having him gone for long periods of time now. And especially when I do need him the most at the moment, it is even harder. It is good that @mamajeroxie is here with me at the moment. However, it means that I lack a lot of time alone to make decisions and think about my next steps.

Malaysia Kitchen Blogger Summit – Chef Lagenda and Laksa King

In week 1, I introduced you to Chillipadi Mamak Kopitiam. It was a blend of Chinese, Malay and Indian flavours all under one roof. In this final week, I will like to aquaint you two Malaysian Chinese restaurants in my hood – Chef Lagenda and Laksa King. I am pretty rap to have all three so close to home. It makes mid week dinner almost brainless.

Malaysia Kitchen Blogger Summit – Lim’s Nyonya Hut

In the third week of the Malaysia Kitchen Blogger Summit, I will like to introduce a cuisine much closer to my heart – The Peranakan, the Straits Chinese or also known as Nyonya or Nonya. There are 3 countries in the world where most Peranakan lives – Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. The Peranakan is a marriage of Chinese settlers to local Malays. The Peranakan itself is vaguely divided into two main groups. The ones in the East coast (Kelantan and Terengganu) which are more Malay influenced and the ones in the West coast like Malacca which are more Chinese influence. The communities in both Penang and Singapore were established later. There is so much history behind this very special, vibrant and fusion culture and I am so proud to be part of it.

Duchess of Spotswood, Spotswood

The Duchess of Spotswood. With a name like this, it is clear that this cafe is steered towards something a little more English. And with a name like this, you will think it will sit in a rather posh area and not a quiet and plain looking street like Hudsons. The name does not matter to me. It is the food that counts. This place has been receiving raving reviews from many food bloggers. The curiosity finally overcome my laziness and we decided that it might just be worth the effort.

Malaysia Kitchen Blogger Summit – Laksa Me and a bowl of laksa

My first encounter with Mr Allen Woo, owner and chef of Laksa Me, was at the recent Good Food and Wine Show in Melbourne. Malaysian Kitchen had a pretty big booth at the show and Mr Allen was one of the ambassador for Malaysia Kitchen and presenter at one of the sessions. I walked in on his presentation about Laksa and loved it. It had a lot of energy and I thought he held a wealth of knowledge and passion about Malaysian cuisine, the ingredients and her history.

M.Wells Diner, Long Island City

I love watching American TV and movies when I was a kid. In many of those movies and sitcoms, there are usually diners that serves big ass hamburgers, a sides of fries and milkshakes and never ending supply of filtered black coffee. The Diner is really American. So when I asked on twitter where I should go in new York City and one of the answer that came back was M.Wells Diner in Long Island City, it became a big yes from me.

Collingwood – Proud Mary

A twitter acquaintance, @wiredjazz, from Sydney was in town. We planned a breakfast/brunch Saturday and then a photo walk around Fitzroy and Collingwood area. It was a perfect plan. Wake up early, catch up at Proud Mary at 10am. Have great coffee, nice big breakfast and then take photos and talk crap the whole afternoon. As many plans, it did not go as plan. There were tiny and very acceptable hiccups.

Chin Chin Melbourne, Melbourne CBD

This is my second visit to Chin Chin. It is the Chin Chin on 125 Flinders Lane that everyone is talking about. It is the new IN place to be seen eating and sipping cocktails in Melbourne CBD. The brains behind Chin Chin is Chris Lucas and the man in the kitchen is Andrew Gimber which will be joined by Ben Cooper from St. Ali very soon.

Claypots Evening Star, South Melbourne

I am so tempted to trawl through my gazillion photos but just too much effort when I was writing this. Mister and I are long time fans of Seafood Claypot in St. Kilda. We even celebrated one of our anniversary at Claypots many moons ago when we were still poor uni students. It required loads of instant noodle to save up for that meal. At that time, it was a big deal for us!
