Pineapple tarts

Pineapple is translated as ‘Ong Lai’ in Hokkien. Direct translation means prosperity come. And what colour is the flesh of the pineapple? It’s yellow which is a close colour to gold especially once the pineapple jam is cooked. Gold means wealth and prosperity as well. For me, it just starts damn bloody good. Pineapple tarts can be eaten in one mouthful. And once a year, I indulge to having as many as I can!

International Incident Scones Party – Pumpkin scones with sweet tomato jam

I remembered the first time I made scones. That was for a domestic economic class at secondary school back in Singapore. It was terrible. It was so hard so all my classmates laughed at me and called them rocks. No one ate any of it. They all went straight into a bin. I was traumatised by the incident and can remember it vividly. This is a real mental challenge for me. I want to do it well so badly.

Quince Jam

Most of this batch of quince jam will be travelling back to Singapore to my mum via Celeste (@petitevalse). This will be the first time that Mum and Dad will have quinces. They are still buying store bought jam from the supermarket. Old habits are hard to kick and I am to blame for not teaching mum how easy it is to make homemade jam. Having said that, I did grow up with supermarket jam, thinking that it is the best in the world. I was awarded with peanut butter and jam sandwiches when I am good. Now, I make my own jam and can’t remember the last time I bought any jams from anyone. Jamming is such an easy and satisfying process.
