Delicious Vietnam finale – Bò Kho or Vietnamese beef stew

by jeroxie December 31, 2011

Final edition of Delicious Vietnam that is created by lovely Melbourne food blogger, Anh. I had to participate even though I have been so lazy this holiday season. Very unproductive but loving every second of it. Mister asked if I was bored not going anyway this year but I said ‘No’. I am happy being alone at home while he heads back to work this week. Plus I had loads to do. Packing, cleaning the house, playing The Sims, watching House, Grey Anatomy and cooking! To top that up, the very lovely Li, Robert and their kids were in town for a very short visit. So good to see familiar faces in Sydney. We really miss our friends in Melbourne.

Cookbook Challenge (citrus) – Luke Nguyen’s salad or dipping sauce

by jeroxie January 29, 2011

This sauce can be both a salad or a dipping sauce. It may not necessary represent this week’s theme but I wanted to use up the last of my lemons from our currently very bald lemon tree. Our lemon tree was diagnosed with gall wasps which is the lumpy growth on the branches of the [...]

Delicious Vietnam #7 – My first balut

by jeroxie October 17, 2010

Balut draft – 2nd of May 2010. Another old post in draft. I deleted the whole post and started writing it with a new perspective. I shall start with thanking Tammi for opening up her house to us. I can vaguely remember how the conversation started and who started it but it seemed like a dare to most of us to try balut. We have a few seasoned balut munchers amongst us – Anh, Phil Lees & Billy. We were in safe hands. We also decided to try balut from different suburbs – Richmond, Footscray and Springvale.

Delicious Vietnam #4 – Melbourne Banh Mi Showdown

by jeroxie August 3, 2010

What is Banh Mi? To many, it is known as Vietnamese roll or Vietnamese baguette. The ones that we get in Melbourne are usually filled with different types of pork slices, pâté spread and a nice dose of pickled salad, fresh coriander and chillies. Over in Vietnam , there is no luxury of meat and it is the bread roll that is the star. I like mine crunchy and flaky. I am prepared to have bread crusts all over me when eating banh mi. That is the first good sign of a good banh mi. And then it is the salad. It has to be fresh with a nice crunch.

Delicious Vietnam #3 – Flourless cassava cake

by jeroxie July 11, 2010

I was not able to make it for last month’s edition of Delicious Vietnam. My site was down most of that fateful Sunday with server issues. It was hard and frustrating trying get onto those ‘tech support’ via live chat. It was a feeling of hopelessness. I have since changed my host and extremely happy and satisfied with it. So far it has been smooth sailing. I DO NOT recommend anyone to sign up with Fatcow!

Delicious Vietnam – Smoked duck rice paper roll

by jeroxie May 10, 2010

Who doesn’t love Pho? But Vietnamese food is beyond Pho and through this monthly event started by A food lover’s journey and Ravenous Couple, it gives me the opportunity to explore more into the Vietnamese cuisine and its culture.

I had no plan and what I bought from the market was a little random as you can see. And what I have also included in the mix is the smoked duck that we bought from Bruny’s Island. It isn’t exactly Vietnamese but looking at the expiry date, it will have to do. I will suggest getting roast duck instead of using smoked duck. Including in the mix were fish floss and crispy rice cakes that I did not use. Shall leave it for another time. I have other ideas for it.
